Together, we can help people build stronger communities — we're just getting started.Meta Reality Labs Research is looking for scientists and researchers with an interest in sensing algorithm and hardware developments for optical imaging and sensing, machine learning, computer vision applications, new sensing and computing architectures, and algorithm/hardware co-design. The goal of this role is to develop research methods to solve advanced computational imaging problems using new imaging modalities such as polarization imaging. The ideal candidates will have a comprehensive understanding of computational imaging and/or computer vision algorithms. Our internships are twelve (12) to sixteen (16), or twenty-four (24) weeks long and we have various start dates throughout the year.

Research Scientist Intern, Imaging (PhD) Responsibilities:
  • Research, design and prototype novel optical imaging and sensing systems
  • Develop and implement machine learning algorithms to enhance imaging system performance
  • Collaborate with scientists and engineers from a variety of technical backgrounds through all stages of imaging system development

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining a PhD in the fields of Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field
  • Must obtain work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment
  • Strong understanding and hands-on experience with computational imaging and/or computer vision algorithms including but not limited to: super-resolution, depth estimation techniques
  • 2+ years of experience programming and image analysis/processing in Python/C++

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with the full machine vision pipeline from cameras to high-level algorithms
  • Experience with polarization imaging using polarization-sensitive cameras
  • Familiarity with Mueller and Jones Calculus for analysis of polarized light
  • Familiarity with optical testing, characterization, and advanced imaging
  • Proven track record of achieving significant results as demonstrated by grants, or fellowships, as well as first-authored publications in major conferences and journals such as CVPR, SIGGRAPH, Optica, and SPIE.
