We are seeking an experienced Research Scientist I, Biochemical Assay Specialist for our Discovery site located in Chicago, IL.
We are seeking a highly skilled, passionate and energetic Scientist to provide scientific leadership for all technical aspects of studies. The Scientist will be a critical member of our Biochemical Assay research team and a leader developing optical and radioactivity-based assay capabilities and dynamic culture. Responsible for leading target/enzyme-based projects for biotech and pharma clients to develop assays for high-throughput screening and characterizing drug candidates and reaction mechanisms.
Successful candidates in this position will:
- Expand and manage a commercial drug discovery assay platform featuring optical and radioactivity-based methodologies.
- Lead efforts to develop and execute optical and radioactivity assays that address clients' needs for high-throughput screening and follow-up assays
- Develop novel assays, design experiments, and interpret results independently.
- Lead internal technology development and research projects around novel targets.
- Write and maintain standard operating protocols (SOP) and maintain a detailed laboratory notebook
- Review, analyze, and communicate results to clients and the scientific leadership.
- Manage plate readers for optical and radioactivity assays, including performing routine maintenance and troubleshooting
- Assist in the oversight of the laboratory and mentor junior staff in areas such as experimental design, method and technology development, protocol improvement, and development of new procedures.
- Provide technical and scientific guidance to the research staff.
- Work collaboratively on timeline-driven projects.
he following are minimum requirement related to the Research Scientist I, Biochemical Assay Specialist position.
- Education: Bachelor's degree (B.S./B.A.) or equivalent in biochemistry, biology, chemistry, immunology, or a related life science field. Related Master's degree (M.S./M.A.) or PhD preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 6 years related experience in the contract research, academic, or pharmaceutical industry. With 2 years of experience in assay development and high-throughput screening.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above.
- Certification/Licensure: Certification as appropriate for specialty preferred.
- Other: Understanding of regulatory requirements of study types assigned, as well as Testing Facility BOPs. Demonstrate leadership skills as they pertain to intra- and interdepartmental initiatives, Sponsor interactions, and business development. Effective written and verbal communication skills. Ability to handle multiple projects, prioritize work and meet deadlines. Proficiency in the use of standard software including Microsoft Excel, Word, Powerpoint, etc. and with standard laboratory calculations. Proven experience in working with plate readers for optical and radioactivity assays, including performing routine maintenance and troubleshooting. Experience with mass spectrometry, fluorescence, luminescence, and/or radioactivity is a preferred.
The pay range for this position is $85,000-$90,000. Please note that salaries vary within the range based on factors including, but not limited to, experience, skills, education, certifications, and location.
