About the job
Google Quantum AI's mission is to build a computer and unlock solutions to classically intractable problems. Our roadmap is focused on advancing the capabilities of quantum computing and enabling meaningful applications.
The Device Modeling group of the Pathfinding team is tasked to assist in building a quantum computer via theoretical efforts to understand and solve Physics problems related to operation of the quantum processor. The overall job responsibility is development of large-scale Electromagnetic (E&M) modeling of superconducting chips and packaging, beyond the capabilities of commercial simulators. The focus is on analytical analysis, including analytical solutions of the mode structure. The work will contribute to development of a hierarchical approach, in which small-scale simulation results are used to produce large-scale parameters. This includes analysis of chip modes and packaging modes affected by the chip structures. It also includes analysis of surface loss and other contributions to the qubit T1 budget. The results of the E&M simulations will be used for predicting fidelities of quantum gates.
The work will be in close collaboration with the teams focused on design and fabrication, it will require analysis of experimental data. It is anticipated that theoretical analysis will result in improvement of qubit coherence and gate operations.
