Compensation Overview

The annual base salary range provided for this position is a nationwide market range and represents a broad range of salaries for this role across the country. The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment. As part of our comprehensive compensation and benefits program, employees are also eligible for performance-based cash incentive awards.

Salary Range

$96,700.00 - $159,600.00

What Is the Opportunity?

Join the team that collaborates across Travelers to inform business decisions, drive winning strategies, and enable the business to capitalize on change. Enterprise Market Research (EMR) provides business and functional area partners with objective, credible and actionable insights; helping to profitably grow the business, build the brand and positively position Travelers within the marketplace.
You will be working on an Emerging Research team driven to ensure the company is making informed future-forward decisions by exploring new and nascent topics; monitoring signals and trends impacting the future of consumers, employees, and business; identifying new experiences, products, and services; and fostering an environment of informed risk-taking by infusing the principles of strategic foresight.
The Research Manager, Future Trends role encompasses obtaining, analyzing, and synthesizing internal and external data sources to identify and size market and industry opportunities, understanding competitors' actions, and monitoring external emerging and futuristic trends and their potential impact on the business. This role conducts and manages multiple secondary research projects; summarizes and synthesizes often conflicting datasets into actionable insights and manages projects end-to-end.
In addition, this position may manage sr. analysts, analysts and/or interns.

Within Enterprise Market Research

  • Uses secondary research to support business unit and enterprise-wide decision making.
  • Works on major projects, uncovers hard to find sources and verifies validity of other sources; performs market, industry, financial and economic analysis; formulates comprehensive answer for the client's business question.
  • Is versed in the execution of secondary research projects, from project scoping to project management and analysis.
  • Leverages colleagues, outside experts, and vendors to generate business relevant insights.
  • May serve as engagement lead for one or more businesses or corporate functions.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Within Emerging Research Portfolio

  • Identify and monitor emerging trends and evaluate the potential impact across the full insurance value chain and to ensure Travelers is at the forefront.
  • Facilitate and lead strategic foresight activities to bring insights from the future into decision making.
  • Understand business partner's goals and constraints to influence research approach and delivery.
  • Develop compelling, concise, and relevant stories to effectively communicate research findings to a variety of audiences including sr. leadership.
  • Collaborate with a variety of departments and business units including product, underwriting, marketing, analytics, claim, etc.
  • Consult and participate in enterprise-wide working groups to provide research on emerging topics.

What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have?

  • Bachelor's degree in business, marketing, economics, engineering, mathematics, statistics, or comparable analytical degree preferred.
  • 4+ years of related work experience preferred.
  • Insurance/underwriting experience strongly desired.
  • 2+ years of leadership experience (formally or informally).
  • Intermediate ability to analyze and summarize data and information from survey or qualitative data.
  • Intermediate ability to turn observations derived from data and analysis into actionable insights.
  • Effective communication and presentation ability across broad range of audiences.
  • Ability to manage research projects from the scoping phase through client delivery, managing to a budget on projects utilizing a vendor.
  • Provide subject matter expertise in research methods and their appropriate applications.
  • Advanced PowerPoint, Word, and Excel skills.

What is a Must Have?

  • Minimum of 3 years of market research or related experience required.
