The Courtney Lab is seeking a full-time Research Laboratory Specialist within the Department of Pharmacology at the University of Michigan Medical School. The ideal candidate will have 2+ years prior laboratory research experience and be highly motivated, organized, and capable of working independently in a competitive Research Laboratory setting. This position will provide an exciting opportunity for the selected candidate to work in the area of cancer immunology. As the selected candidate, you will be expected to assess T cell function using mouse and cell culture models, as well as mouse tumor models to assess the effects of T cell therapies on tumor outgrowth and anti-tumor immunity. Other duties will include laboratory & mouse colony maintenance.

Responsibilities*
- Plan experiments, prepare samples, analyze them, and interpret the results
- Isolate immune cells from mice and culture them ex vivo
- Conduct T cell assays (proliferation, cytokine production, cell-mediated cytotoxicity) and assess signaling pathways in T cells (e.g., protein phosphorylation)
- Assess mouse tumor models (tumor outgrowth, isolate tumor/immune cells)
- Present findings at group meetings
- Maintain transgenic mouse colony
- Genotype and identify transgenic mice using PCR-based screens
- Prepare resources and reagents that are critical to the success of others experiments
- Oversee lab archives, including the antibody and plasmid inventories
- Maintain lab supply inventory
- Train and mentor junior scientists on how to perform experiments. Ensure that experiments are conducted safely
- Act as a liaison with EHS and others to schedule and complete annual inspections
Required Qualifications*
- Bachelor's degree in Biology, Biochemistry, or a related discipline
- 2+ years of related research experience
- Experience working with and maintaining a transgenic mouse colony
- Proficiency in cell culture and general molecular biology techniques (e.g., DNA isolation, Western blot)
- Data analysis and quantification

Desired Qualifications*
- Familiarity with mouse dissection and tissue isolation
- Mouse tumor models
- Experience with immunofluorescence or flow cytometry
