This job is responsible for supporting the Principal Investigator's (physician or scientist) efforts to 1) investigate scientific and medical questions; 2) collect and organize data; 3) prepare abstracts, presentations & manuscripts, 4) collaborate with and train other team members as necessary, and 5) disseminate and publish research results. The Research Fellow's primary role is to engage in clinical or laboratory research experiments. The Fellow should maintain impeccable records and provide copies to the Principal Investigator as necessary. The fellow is expected to think independently, troubleshoot technical problems and understand his/her experiments. He/she should read scientific literature and demonstrate an intellectual interest in the biomedical research projects. The Research Fellow should report any suspected research irregularities to the Office of Research Administration.
Education
Required - Doctoral degree (MD, PhD, DO)
Preferred - For PhD, area of study should be in a health related field.
Work Experience
Required - None
Preferred - Prior experience in biomedical research
Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs)
  • Must have computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of required job information.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals.
  • Must be proficient with Windows-style applications, keyboard, and various software packages specific to role.
  • Basic knowledge of biomedical research processes, preferably through hands-on experience as a student or during post-graduate work.
  • Ability to define project objectives, identify stakeholders, plan steps, and allocate resources to achieve objectives in a resourceful manner.
  • Ability to troubleshoot basic technical problems.
  • Excellent analytical skills.
  • Excellent leadership skills.
  • Good deductive and inductive reasoning skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Good judgment.
  • Basic project management skills.

Job Duties
  • Executes research projects and initiatives.
  • Collects, records and evaluates research data.
  • Communicates with and presents plans/projects to team members.
  • Stays current with scientific and medical literature related to research projects.
  • Organizes and publishes research data in the form of abstracts, presentations and journal or book articles.
  • Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including but not limited to: respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed, requesting permissions and communication style.
  • Other related duties as required.
