Job description

Job Description

Overview:

CASES is a New York City non-profit organization at the forefront of pretrial services, alternative-to-incarceration, and behavioral health treatment programs for people impacted by the criminal legal system. Through a unique partnership with the New York City Mayor’s Office of Criminal Justice, CASES offers evidence-based pretrial services via the Manhattan Supervised Release Program. The vision of CASES is a city in which a person’s previous criminal legal involvement or behavioral health needs do not limit their opportunity to realize their best life.

CASES is looking for a Junior Analyst to join the Impact division and work in a small, fast-paced unit to understand how the Manhattan Supervised Release Program (SRP) impacts participant criminal legal outcomes, addresses participant needs, and supports increased justice in the criminal legal system. This person will work full-time closely with the Senior Research & Evaluation Analyst and Managing Director to identify key metrics for measuring implementation and impact and report performance to internal and external stakeholders. The ideal candidate is a collaborative, strategic, and mission-driven individual committed to social justice, undoing racism, and alternatives to incarceration. We would love a person who has a personal or family history of involvement in the criminal legal system to join our team.

This is a remote position working when needed in-person to deliver staff training, conduct surveys or focus groups, or participate in any external stakeholder meetings. When working in-person, the Research & Evaluation Analyst will typically be onsite at our Central Harlem or Downtown Brooklyn locations but may occasionally be required to work from other CASES offices.

What you will be doing:

Responsibilities (include but not limited to):

Data Management

  • Develop expertise with MSRP programmatic data and criminal legal data.
  • Support data cleaning and merging of Pretrial data reports to create analytic datasets.
  • Collaborate with the Data & Analytics team to ensure data validation and accuracy in data pulled from the CASES database (Salesforce & Exponent Case Management)
  • Edit survey instruments or focus group guides and coordinate implementation (e.g., scheduling survey dissemination, survey reminders)
  • Perform data entry and/or support data entry among other teams.

Data Analysis

  • Conduct quantitative analysis (e.g., Stata) and qualitative analysis (e.g., NVivo) for recurring and ad-hoc data requests.
  • Support presentation of key program outcomes to internal and external stakeholders via editing/drafting interim research briefs, data visuals, and presentations.

Support Internal & External Stakeholder Engagement

  • Provide administrative support (e.g., note-taking or scheduling meetings) to facilitate ongoing or ad-hoc stakeholder meetings.
  • Support crafting agendas for future meetings and memorialize next steps.

Additional Key Duties

  • Conduct literature review, prepare abstracts, and stay abreast of the latest research developments in pretrial supervision, bail, criminal legal system, and racial and social equity.

  • Create and maintain an inventory of pretrial programming literature to inform future research in Excel.

What we are looking for:

  • A bachelor's degree with at least 1 year of professional experience of professional experience in applied research, sociology, statistics, criminal justice, law, public policy, public health, social work, or social science.
  • Proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, etc.)
  • Keen interest in conducting quantitative analysis, ideally using statistical software (e.g., Stata, SPSS, or R)
  • Experience with data visualization (e.g., Excel, Power BI, Tableau)
  • Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity, equity, and belonging and contributing to an inclusive work environment.
  • Excellent communications skills (verbal, written, presentation, interpersonal) with all types and levels of audiences.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team as well as independently.
  • Spanish language preferred.
