Innovative Scientific Solutions, Inc. is an advanced technology company specializing in leading-edge research for the US Air Force Research Laboratory at Wright Patterson AFB. ISSI is currently seeking candidates for Research Engineer positions covering a wide breadth of focus areas and levels of expertise within the Low Speed Wind Tunnel Group and elsewhere within AFRL. The Low Speed Wind Tunnel Group focuses on cutting edge study of aerodynamics of turbine components in gas turbine engines. Qualified candidates will have interest and relevant experience in experimental fluid dynamics with emphasis on low Reynolds number aerodynamic flows, such as boundary layer transition, separation, and unsteady endwall flow phenomena.
Primary Responsibilities Include
· Develop and conduct research experiments in a collaborative environment at a government research laboratory.
· Plan, design, fabricate, assemble, instrument, and develop apparatuses to perform aerodynamic experiments in a wind tunnel environment.
· Obtain measurements and develop experiment-specific data acquisition processes including advanced data reduction of high-speed hot-film, pressure, and multi-dimensional particle image velocity (PIV) measurements.
· Modify, update, and improve the wind tunnel laboratory as needed, including but not limited to experimental hardware, experimental data acquisition systems, and computational resources.
Skills & Experience Desired
· Professional or graduate level research experience in experimental aerodynamics/fluid dynamics.
· Experience in active aerodynamic flow control methods and working with various sensors and actuators, such as steady and pulsed pneumatic devices.
· Experience designing, modifying, installing, and operating specialized wind tunnel devices and instrumentation and obtaining measurements in a wind tunnel facility.
· Hands-on experience using hot-film sensors, pressure transducers, and developing, configuring, and obtaining flow velocity measurements using the Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) technique.
· Demonstrated ability to execute research protocols, summarize results, and prepare reports including giving technical presentations as required. Excellent written, verbal, and graphical communication skills.
· Direct experience using and writing LabVIEW and MATLAB scripts.
· Experience developing designs and engineering drawings for fabrication using 3D parametric software such as SOLIDWORKS.
· Experience safely using hand tools, power tools, machine tools, and personal protection equipment.
Education
B.S. from an accredited university in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field, with an emphasis on fluid mechanics. M.S. or higher preferred.
