Job description

Microbiologics is seeking an outstanding PhD scientist to join our Product Development group charged with developing and launching cutting-edge molecular controls for infectious disease, Near Patient testing and syndromic assay. This role will support new product initiatives to enable, multiplexed PCR technologies that can effectively quantify multiple DNA and RNA markers through integration of reagents and instrumentation. This position will support product development, including activities such as prototype optimization, guard banding, design lock, verification, validation, and design transfer.

What can I expect in this role?

This is a full time position with typical business hours Monday-Friday.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Develop biomaterials (microorganisms (bacteria, fungi, bacteriophage, viruses and parasites), cell lines, nucleic acids and proteins) that may be used as controls for diagnostic tests used in clinical diagnostics.
  • Apply novel amplification methods, including multiplexed PCR or related techniques, for the sensitive detection or quantification gene targets in Quality control products.
  • Prepare and/or contribute to protocols, presentations, standard operating procedures, validation procedures, and technical reports to support lab infrastructure, new product initiatives, and on-market product investigations.
  • Mentor and train co-workers on techniques and lead data analysis and interpretation.
  • Provide substantial, high-quality contributions to projects by working independently, communicating effectively within team and cross-functionally, and leveraging the active support of others.
  • Organize, analyze, and/or visualize datasets using analytical software and statistical comparisons.
  • Lead and contribute to design and execution of experimental plans or processes to support objectives within the organization.
  • Apply scientific methods and process design principles to improve product development and manufacturing processes.
  • Must have demonstrated ability to work independently on complex projects and determine priorities for self and others.

Here is what we are looking for:

  • Preferred Education/Experience

    • Ph.D. in Bacteriology, Molecular Biology, Virology, Biochemistry or similar
    • 5+ years of experience with laboratory experience working with multiple isolates of bacteria, viruses, cell lines.
    • Experience with molecular biology techniques including nucleic acid isolation and quantitation (qPCR, dd-PCR), cloning, primer/probe design for multiplex assays.
    • Experience in Molecular assay development.
    • Experience with microbiology techniques including microbial culture, enumeration, isolation, identification.
    • Demonstrated ability to plan complex research studies that support short and long-term corporate strategic plans.
    • Experience leading research or implementation groups to successful completion of projects(s).
    • Ability to work in multi-location, multi-disciplinary teams.

      Desired Qualifications:

      • Experience developing regulated molecular diagnostic tests (especially FDA-cleared) is desirable.
      • 1-2 years industry laboratory experience (ISO-13485,21CFR Part 820) in one or multiple technologies/fields, including multiplexed PCR methods, is desirable.
  • The ability to pass a background check and drug screening.
