Job Summary
Westat has an immediate opening for a Research Associate to join our team of leading food and nutrition researchers, evaluators, policy analysts, and technical assistance providers. Our work supports the USDA Food and Nutrition Service in the administration of federal nutrition assistance programs, in addition to other federal, state, and nonprofit clients. In this role, you will collaborate with a team to implement research, evaluation, or technical assistance projects requiring demonstrated experience in data collection, analysis and report writing. This is a full-time telework position, however, travel for team meetings, project work, and conferences is required.
Job Responsibilities
- Contribute to qualitative and/or quantitative research projects.
- Perform project management tasks, such as notetaking and scheduling.
- Perform research tasks and activities, such as collecting and analyzing qualitative and/or quantitative data.
- Contribute to client deliverables and proposals with review and input from supervisors.
- Perform or manage multiple complex tasks.
- Participate in internal project meetings and in client meetings.
Basic Qualifications
- Typically requires a bachelor’s degree in public policy, public health, social science, or a related field and 5 years of related experience.
- Experience conducting qualitative and quantitative research, policy analysis, or technical assistance.
- Demonstrated experience working with SNAP, WIC, NSLP/SBP, and/or other federal nutrition assistance and social safety net programs.
Preferred Qualifications
- A master’s degree in public policy, public health, social science, or a related field and 1-3 years of related experience.
- Lived experience participating in one or more federal nutrition or social safety net programs and/or experience collaborating with people served by these programs.
- Experience using quantitative or qualitative analytic software such as R, SAS, STATA, NVivo, or ATLAS.ti.
