We are a research group in the Wake Forest University School of Medicine that conducts research in the evaluation of health policy and clinical interventions, focusing on Health Disparities. We are seeking a Research Associate to work on various research projects involving a multidisciplinary team of researchers from health economics, health services research, medicine, epidemiology, biostatistics, psychology, and geography. Our projects involve using large databases of healthcare utilization and health surveys (Medicare, AHRQ, and CDC) and the application of advanced statistical/econometric models to assess policy impact.
Function of Job
In collaboration with the study investigators, the Research Associate must direct, coordinate and assume responsibility for various aspects of the study/project directed toward planning, implementation, evaluation, writing, and dissemination of study findings. This classification requires judgment and discretion in performing the assigned duties and responsibilities related to the project.
Characteristic Work
- Work with the study investigators and senior staff to coordinate the successful and timely completion of tasks that comprise the implementation, data collection, data acquisition, and analysis phases of the project, including planning, development, implementation, evaluation, writing, and dissemination of study findings. Assist with compiling and writing scientific progress reports.
- Represent the Program in Health Services Research and the Health Services Core to Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist clinician investigators and other researchers, serving as the liaison and representative.
- Supervise and coordinate the data analysts and other support staff. Assist in hiring data analysts, research students and other support staff, and instruct new team members about research procedures and protocols.
- Assist in the preparation of scientific papers for publication. Conduct relevant literature searches and write summary findings.
- Participate in brainstorming research ideas and writing new grant/contract proposals.
- Take the lead / participate in planning national and local meetings related to the project at each stage. Attend and participate in national and local scientific meetings.
- Assist in preparing data use agreements, contracts and subcontracts.
- Assist in managing project finances and arranging disbursements and payments from the study budget.
- Assist in hiring data analysts and research students, and instruct new team members about research procedures and protocols.
- Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
Minimum Acceptable Qualifications
- Master’s degree in a related field, or a comparable graduate degree, with at least six years of relevant experience; or a Bachelor’s degree with at least eight years of relevant experience.
- Demonstrated knowledge of scientific principles and prior research experience.
- Strong computer skills.
- Strong communication skills.
- Public speaking experience.
- Ability to prepare grant proposals with supervision.
- Peer-reviewed publications, plus oral or poster presentations at national meetings.
- Supervisory ability.
- At least one letter of recommendation from faculty.
Additional Desirable Qualifications
- Experience with the use of statistical software (Stata, SAS, R)
- Experience with use of healthcare survey or administrative data
