Overview
JOB SUMMARY
At Houston Methodist, the Research Associate II position is responsible for conducting advanced laboratory experiments on research projects with minimal supervision. This position provides advanced technical research skills and establishing test methods and procedures under the direction of Department Chairperson or Scientist (Faculty). The Research Associate II position evaluates results of (or response to) process; summarizes data; may provide oversight and guidance to other associates.

Responsibilities
PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

PEOPLE - 20%
  1. Monitors team of Research Assistants and Post Docs 0-2. Provides communication of needs, issues to be addressed, and all important information necessary to ensure department success. Facilitates open, professional, communication to achieve mutual understanding, role modeling by example. (EF)
  2. Promotes a positive work environment with the interprofessional care team to achieve optimal department results. Participates in teamwork by responding positively to requests for assistance. (EF)
  3. Teaches peers to critically think by verbally expressing rationale for decisions and follows up consistently. Uses peer-to-peer accountability towards improvement of department score for employee engagement. (EF)

SERVICE - 20%
  1. Organizes the workflow, proactively problem solves, anticipates needs, and manages multiple ongoing priorities. (EF)
  2. Analyzes data for research grants and publications (medium to high complexity). Maintains accurate records of all research and data collection. (EF)
  3. Completes/performs research and incorporates novel procedures and methods into research experiments as appropriate (medium complexity). (EF)

QUALITY/SAFETY - 20%
  1. Independently handles resolution of complex problems and issues and notifies management of issue and resolution. Serves as escalation support for less experienced staff. (EF)
  2. Writes and maintains regulatory and safety committee applications/protocols. (EF)
  3. Establishes and maintains quality control of project operations. (EF)

FINANCE - 20%
  1. Utilizes resources effectively and efficiently, demonstrating responsible financial stewardship. Manages own time effectively and prioritizes work to achieve maximum results in a timely manner. (EF)
  2. Assists with ensuring orders for supplies are on appropriate grants. (EF)

GROWTH/INNOVATION - 20%
  1. Drives change initiatives, maintaining effectiveness when experiencing major changes in work responsibilities or environment; adjusts effectively to work within new work structures, processes, requirements or cultures. Partners effectively with stakeholders as appropriate. (EF)
  2. Determines specific research project goals and objectives to be attained. Assumes responsibility and oversight for those goals and objectives. (EF)
  3. Participates in publication and grant writing as first author. Works toward writing specific aims and research plan independently. (EF)
  4. Proactively manages own professional development and completes My Development Plan. (EF)

o Six years post-doctoral experience
