BASIC FUNCTION:
Perform a variety of duties as needed for NIH-funded research in the lab.
SUPERVISORY ACCOUNTABILITY:
None
NATURE AND SCOPE:
Mainly scientific research activities including but not limited to transgenic animal colony care and maintenance, microinjection of virus in brain subregions,
immunohistochemistry, animal behavioral tests, purchase order of animal and lab supplies. Internal contacts are with a variety of staff, faculty and students. External contacts are with vendors of lab and animal supplies.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
• Conduct a wide variety of research experiments and procedures (immunohistochemistry,
behavioral tests, viral microinjection, brain slice preparation, confocal microscopy, et al.) with others or independently.
• Collect and analyze data; maintain and organize research data in computer, report and present experimental findings to the PI and at scientific meetings.
• Assist the PI in preparing progress reports, presentations and meetings as required by the project.
• Assist the PI in ordering and organizing lab supplies and animals.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
CORE COMPETENCIES:
• Knowledge of molecular biology, immunohistochemistry, and/or behavioral tests, or other research techniques related to the purpose of the study.
• Experience in animal care and genotyping.
• Ability and experience in performing data analysis of experimental results.
• Ability to prepare progress reports and make presentations.
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions and the ability to tend to details
• Ability to understand and follow basic scientific research protocol and procedure and maintain records.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective and harmonious work relations with faculty, staff, students and customers.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor degree in biology, chemistry, or related biomedical majors with previous work experience in biomedical lab setting or willingness to learn new technologies.
