The position is part-time.

  • Help schedule and facilitate studio recordings
  • Draft web content
  • Identify strong tape and pull selects in consultation with colleagues
  • Occasionally provide rough cuts of interviews and selects
Qualifications of the ideal candidate:
  • 1-2 years experience in audio journalism
  • Impeccable news judgment and an eye for argument and stylish execution
  • A track record of working with high-level journalists
  • Familiarity with Pro-tools audio editing (or similar audio editing software)
  • Experience editing and working with Descript (or ability to learn quickly)
  • Experience working in a recording studio (or ability to quickly learn)
  • Familiarity with The Atlantic and its Family, Ideas, and Culture coverage and authors
  • Facility for identifying compelling ideas and communicating them to a general-interest audience
  • Openness to a wide variety of views and perspectives
  • Ability to work quickly, switch gears as needed, and meet deadlines
  • Close attention to detail and high standards for accuracy
  • A collaborative spirit, and an ability to communicate effectively
This job is a 6 month part-time position that will require approximately 24 hours a week of work. The hourly rate for this position is between $26.44-$31.25 per hour and will include The Atlantic’s full benefits package. This position is based at The Atlantic’s office in Washington, D.C.
