- Conduct experiments in the area of molecular biology and cellular biology of cancer after discussing the goals of each project and receiving verbal and/or written instruction from the supervisor on how to conduct the experiments prior to proceeding.
- Procure blood specimens from MD Anderson Cancer Center Diagnostic Laboratories as requested by the research data coordinators and research collaborators. Process and store human samples, including blood, plasma, tissue and bone marrow. Maintain accurate records of patient samples.
- Maintain breast cancer and melanoma cancer cell lines using sterile techniques. Extract protein lysates and DNA from cells, perform PCR and run western blots on these samples.
- Assume responsibility for general laboratory maintenance by a) maintaining procedures and protocols that ensure the quality and integrity of procedures performed, b) monitoring work flow as it pertains to the need for supplies, equipment maintenance and preparation of stock solutions, c) keeping ample stock of supplies on hand, d) following up on orders to ensure organization and accessibility of all reagents.

Data gathering and analysis
- Records and evaluates data in accordance with methods requested.
Communication
- Discuss results of experiments immediately after completion to ensure accuracy and comparability with previous results of similar experiments.

Required Education:
Bachelor's degree, major course work in one of the basic sciences.

Preferred Experience:
Research experience, basic laboratory techniques, proficiency in data collection, detail-oriented, highly motivated, strong organizational skills, strong communication skills, and excellent time management skills.

This position is onsite Monday - Friday.
