The Research Assistant I will work in the Andrew Glazer Lab at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, TN. The lab performs high-throughput studies of mutations that cause arrhythmias and other diseases. The goal of the research is to better diagnose and treat patients with inherited diseases. After training, the RA1 will perform under supervision a variety of tasks, including molecular biology, cell culture, and lab management tasks.
- Perform a variety of molecular biology protocols including: PCR, plasmid mutagenesis and cloning, DNA extraction, and DNA sequencing.
- Generate mutations in disease genes for high-throughput study.
- Perform tissue culture and flow cytometry protocols.
- Assist colleagues with lab supply orders and other lab management tasks.
- The applicant will report directly to Dr. Glazer in one-on-one meetings, participate in group meetings, and work closely with other lab members.
Qualifications:
- Completed or projected Bachelor's Degree
- Ability to interact with students, faculty and/or staff in a team environment
- Some coursework in biology and experience or training with molecular biology or lab research.
