Animal Facilities is looking for a dedicated Gnotobiotic Technician.
This role oversees isolators, changes cages on specialized gnotobiotic ventilated racks and coordinates space to meet demands of all PI staff, performs husbandry as needed and submits all confirmation testing to ensure isolators clean.
This position also has oversight of breeding in breeding isolators including rotating breeding mice to ensure consistent numbers, record keeping and communication with PI staff to discuss colony status, performs technician research support to investigators doing research, and provides oversight to student assigned to area and coordinates work for full time technicians who provide assistance.
Additionally, the Gnotobiotic Technician is responsible for providing coverage to all centralized animal facilities on the Purdue campus, is required to work with all species in all locations, and is responsible for special projects as assigned by the Assistant Director.
The ideal candidate must have a flexible schedule to meet investigators reasonable requests including possible weekend work for technical support.
Required:
- High School Diploma/GED
- Driver's license
- Seven (7) total years of Animal Care related experience (minimum 3 years direct Research Animal Care experience) if external
- Six (6) total years of Animal Care related experience (minimum 3 years direct Research Animal Care experience) if internal
- Ability to work overtime and on weekend/holidays as required
- Must be able to work in Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Box and navigate rodent breeding software
- Knowledge of gnotobiotics and maintaining isolators
- Knowledge of and skills in rodent breeding
- Animal health and husbandry knowledge with rodents
- Must be able to work on a team environment as well as independently
- Must be able to pull/push large heavy equipment; push/pull equipment up and down ramps; repetitive lifting/turning/bending/reaching
- Must be able to enter stalls or caging with large animals (cow/horse/sheep/pig) and work in the stall with the animals present

- AS/BS/BA
- LATG certification
