Job description

POLITICO is seeking a Washington, D.C.-based Research Analyst to contribute to its regulatory intelligence and information services product, AgencyIQ.

Since its founding in early 2020, AgencyIQ has quickly become the premier source of regulatory intelligence and analysis for life sciences professionals and is relied upon by many of the top companies, trade groups, law firms and advocacy groups in the life sciences industry.
The Research Analyst will join a team of experienced life sciences industry research managers and analysts responsible producing a mix of daily content, in-depth research, weekly insights, directed deliverables and presentations.

With direction from senior staff, the Analyst will assess and analyze the relevance of regulatory changes and developments, articulate the type and degree of impact on life sciences companies, and provide contextualization to an audience of knowledgeable regulatory professionals.
The role will be part of a team examining the impact of European regulations and policy on pharmaceutical, medical device, biotechnology and life sciences sectors. This role will have a particular emphasis on tracking European regulations on a daily basis to support publication of one of our marquee newsletters, EMA Today. The role will also have frequent opportunities to write longer analyses.
What You'll Do:
Like most jobs, the Research Analyst will have a range of responsibilities. However, on most typical days you will:

  • Help produce a bi-weekly regulatory newsletter focused on European life sciences regulation
  • Produce written research deliverables that evaluate regulatory agencies’ impact on industry and AgencyIQ’s subscribers
  • Develop, maintain and analyze specific research data sets (including calendars and regulation trackers)
  • Keep track of emerging regulatory developments and manage processes related to tracking activities
  • Assist colleagues with research projects
  • Collaborate with other research staff to product qualitative and quantitative analysis on emerging topics

On occasion, the Research Analyst also will:

  • Help review research authored by your colleagues
  • Help develop presentations for AgencyIQ subscribers and potential subscribers
  • Interact with AgencyIQ subscribers to help answer their questions

What You'll Need:
This role involves a substantial amount of research, analysis and writing in a deadline-driven environment. Our goal is to provide our subscribers with timely, insightful analysis of new regulatory developments. The ideal candidate will:

  • Find enjoyment in monitoring, reading, analyzing, writing, speaking and learning about challenging regulatory topics
  • Have prior experience writing about regulatory developments in a deadline-driven environment for an executive or industry audience (e.g., for an internal company newsletter or for externally-facing publications)
  • Have 1+ years of prior work experience related to regulatory affairs (e.g., working for a company, trade group, regulator, or professional services company)
  • Have previous experience analyzing life sciences regulation, ideally related to the European pharmaceutical, biopharmaceutical, medical device or diagnostics industries
  • Be experienced with (or be comfortable) writing neutral, non-partisan, objective analysis for sophisticated audiences
  • Have an attention to detail and an obsession with accuracy
  • Enjoy working in a collaborative, friendly environment

While not required, you might stand out if you have:

  • Knowledge of multiple regulatory systems or regulatory domains (such as pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, medical devices, diagnostics, etc)
  • An advanced degree related to policy analysis or science (e.g., MPH, MS, JD, etc); and/or
  • Certification in regulation (i.e., Regulatory Affairs Certification)

Why You’ll Like This Position:

You will enjoy this position if you:

  • Enjoy learning something new every day (especially about medical policy)
  • Enjoy writing about health policy
  • Enjoy simplifying complex ideas and teaching others
  • Like figuring out how seemingly unrelated rules and policies interact
  • Enjoy working in a fast-paced, information-driven environment

How We’ll Help You Succeed:

We know even most seasoned regulatory researchers still learn something new every day. Our research team is ready to help train, teach, support and mentor you to be successful.
