Summary:
Supporting recovery services, the Remote Review Coordinator is responsible for remotely reviewing medical charts of active referral patients to the organ procurement organization (OPO) to evaluate overall suitability, monitor care progression, and make recommendations for clinical and Family Care support within LifeLink Foundation, OPO, and regulating agency policies and protocols. This position maintains all functions of the Family Care Coordinator (FCC) in addition to exhibiting and maintaining experience related to suitability of referred patients for donation to allow for focused utilization of onsite staff for specific needs of direct Family Care. This position utilizes verbal and written communication skills to receive and report pertinent medical information to internal and external stakeholders responsible for ensuring the safe and equitable utilization of organs and tissues for transplantation and research.
Responsibilities:
- Maintains electronic health record (EHR) access for OPO service area facilities for in-person and remote chart reviews.
- Supports the OPO in meeting performance metrics by providing real-time Remote Review to the Referral Coordinator (RC) and other staff of relevant medical and social history, laboratory results, diagnostic interpretations, donor hospital plans for care, and possible family needs related to end-of-life care.
- Possesses knowledge of medical and legal principles of donor evaluation and authorization. Utilizes resources such as hospital and LifeLink organizational profiles and policies as a resource during workday along with mentoring coworkers and newer team members on utilizing these resources.
- Assigned remote case reviews by the Referral Coordinator throughout the course of coordinators defined shift which could incorporate the following needs along with any other needs determined by the RC or Administrator on Call (AOC):
I. New and/or pending onsite referrals to determine suitability and determination of priority cases (i.e., family plans to withdrawal support, impending brain death examinations, hypothermia, patient stability)
II. Update of active referrals being followed by OPO staff to determine continued suitability or identify revised or changing plans of care ensuring the opportunity for donation is maintained.
III. Remote analysis of referrals currently under hospital development purview for timely updates for closure or determining the need for clinical or family support should the referral progress to active status. Coordinates with facility hospital development team member for continued rounding for OPO visibility on referrals.
5. Available to speak with families over the phone or virtually, when needed, to offer the option of organ, eye, and tissue donation along with negotiating directly with hospital staff to support the donation option by advocating for OPO staff direct interaction with families.
6. Works on special assignments and projects as directed by Manager of Family Care Coordinator Program, Director of Recovery Services, or executive leadership.
7. Resourceful and accurate in communication with coworkers, physicians, and hospital staff.
8. Responsible for participating in quality assessment performance improvement (QAPI) activities for the OPO as outlined in the OPO Quality Assessment Performance Improvement Plan.
9. Participate in continuing education courses and seminars as needed.
10. Participate in regularly scheduled OPO meetings, CCRs, QA meetings, or others as directed.
Requirements:
- Minimum of two years or in related LifeLink position and/or possess appropriate credentialing and experience which may include medical-related degree/certification or appropriate, clinical experience, and strong communication foundation.
- Strong computer and EHR platform expertise to quickly navigate and convey pertinent medical, social, and family needs for assigned referrals.
- Advanced technical, organizational, communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills required.
- Ability to work within a high-paced and elevated stress environment due to the nature of work involving death and dying causing emotional and physical stressors.
- Ability to prioritize remote work (computer and phone) to accomplish the goals for assigned referrals and meeting the needs of all stakeholders.
- Understanding that confidentiality must be maintained, according to Foundation protocols.
Working Conditions:
Remote position that is supported within a strong team environment with periods of high stress and extended hours. On-call rotation responsibility with 24-hr computer and cell phone accessibility.
