JOB TITLE: Relief Residential Counselor
DEPARTMENT: Daybreak/Youth Empowerment Services
REPORTS TO: Program Manager
POSITION STATUS: Non-Exempt-Relief (swing shift, overnights, and weekends)
SALARY: $20-$22 per hour

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:
StarVista's Daybreak program provides homeless youth with the skills and resources they need to live on their own. Daybreak participants receive training in: Obtaining and maintaining employment Personal health and self-care Money management Meal planning and preparation Performing daily chores Accessing and using educational training and community resources Locating and renting housing Pursuing educational opportunities
Additionally, Daybreak's therapeutic resources include: Case Management and Counseling Educational Groups Socialization Activities Permanency Planning
Requirements
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Primary responsibilities include providing milieu counseling with clients, making sure clients are completing their programmatic responsibilities, maintaining the residential facility, de-escalating crisis situations, maintaining safety of residents, and completing necessary shift paperwork.
- Assists the in day-to-day operation of the shelter and/or monitors facility and residents during night-time hours.
- Supervises residents in daily activities and behavior.
- Completes daily shift documentation of client interactions.
- Performs bed checks and room inspections.
- Assesses emergency and medical situations and determines appropriate action, notifies supervisor, police, parents, hospital, as appropriate and/or completes incident report.
- Responds to and refers telephone inquiries to appropriate resource as needed.
- Ensures the safety of all residents and staff during shift hours.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Seeking an energetic, team orientated person who has experience and enjoys working with youth.
- BA degree is preferred
- Ability to remain awake and alert during overnight shifts
