SUMMARY
Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Asset Management Americas (“SMTAMA”), an investment management company located in New York City, is looking for a Relationship Associate. The Relationship Associate is an entry level position but will be responsible for providing institutional investors in North America with day-to-day client services, and also for supporting the business development activities of the Client Relations Team.
JOB FUNCTIONS/DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develops an understanding of the investment management industry and especially the investment management sales process.
- At the guidance and instruction of the Client Relations Team leaders, develops and maintains the company’s business relationships with clients and prospects.
- Creates solutions to meet the clients' needs/requirements in conjunction with specialized staff.
- Provides information about the financial markets and our investment strategies to clients/prospects.
- Liaises with the Tokyo Head Office, especially with the Global Business Development Department to align with Head Office policies.
- Supports business development activities led by the senior managers of Client Relations Team.
COMPLIANCE
- Become familiar with SMTAMA’s Compliance Policies & Procedures Manual, and supplemental compliance programs.
- Complete all seminars that are conducted in connection with SMTAMA’s ongoing compliance-related training program.
- Attains all registrations and designations required following SEC Registration, if applicable.
REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree or current senior student who will graduate from college in 2024.
- Major in Finance, Economics, Business, or a related area.
- Mastery of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
- Understands the importance of compliance.
- Problem solving and time management skills.
- Understanding of Japanese language is not required but a plus.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Work hours: Normal work hours are from 9am to 5pm EST from Monday to Friday.
- Extra hours: For some internal/external meetings, especially with people in Tokyo, after hours video meetings may be required.
- Work locations: “Hybrid” style is the standard (required to work in the office approximately 60% of above working hours). Occasional in-person meetings in the main office may be required.
- Work from home: Remote devices will be provided.
- Business travel (domestic): Occasional business trips within the US by air, by train or by car may be required.
- Business travel (international): In some circumstances, business trips to Japan may be required.
