The Regulatory Compliance Specialist champions quality in the organization by implementing and monitoring the investigation management process and other quality/compliance tasks. The Regulatory Compliance Specialist also coordinates and maintains all activities of the Organization related to investigating issues on non- compliance and performs compliance internal audits.
Position Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree preferred, or a combination of education, training, and related experience.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience working in a health care or human services setting,required.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in the Quality Assurance and Corporate Compliance areas, preferred.
  • Knowledge of OPWDD and/or DOH operations preferred.
  • Knowledge of OPWDD and/or DOH regulations in the audit, incident and quality assurance areas, particularly Care Coordination, preferred.

Position Responsibilities:
  • Assists in the implementation and promotion of the Corporate Compliance Program.
  • Assists in the maintenance and updating of a database/library of regulations and guidelines relating to program compliance.
  • Assists in developing and maintaining audit tools and checklists for targeted audits. Using critical thinking skills, makes judgment calls on when to escalate investigations and non-compliance concerns to the Compliance and Incident Manager, and does so in a timely manner
  • Determines appropriate documentation for investigation depending on severity and escalation of incident. Ensures documentation is clear, concise, and organized to provide a complete picture of the investigation process and conclusion.
  • Independently conducts targeted audits as assigned and other monitoring activities utilizing audit tools, checklists and reports to investigate reported or discovered potential areas of non-compliance with applicable state and federal laws.
  • Independently conducts fidelity calls, both random and targeted, utilizing established fidelity call process.
  • Facilitates the process and preparation for Redesignation and Recertification audits by OPWDD/DOH.
  • Performs investigations involving areas of potential non-compliance discovered or reported and prepares reports for review by the Regulatory Compliance Manager.
  • Communicates and collaborates with the appropriate staff regarding audits and compliance issues, including follow-up regarding issues found during the targeted audit process, fidelity calls, and investigations.
  • Maintains a thorough understanding of applicable state and federal laws and regulations as well as internal policies and procedures.
  • Maintain knowledge of quality assurance, compliance and care coordination policies and procedures.
  • May be called upon to assist with or complete incidents discovered or reported and prepare reports for review by the Compliance and Incident Manager.
  • Assists with tracking and responses to the ticketing system as well as random audits of compliance with guidance given.
  • Assists with monitoring and tracking corrective action related to audits conducted by quality auditors and follow up as needed.
  • Completes QA audits as necessary based on workload and identified department needs.
  • Assists as needed in preparing trending analyses and reports regarding incident, compliance, and other quality related data, as needed.

  • Strong knowledge of OPWDD funded services and supports.
  • Knowledgeable of person-centered planning regulations.
  • Familiarity with Electronic Medical Record systems.
  • Ability to build relationships and effectively communicate.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent writing and word processing skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously.
  • Completes work in a timely manner and ability to prioritize.

  • Demonstrates ethical and professional responsibilities and boundaries.
