Definition:
Under the direction of the Program Supervisor, or designee, the incumbent will provide public health measures in a variety of areas. This may include clinical aspects or broader population level interventions/education.
Operational duty expectations include, but are not limited to, obtaining, and assessing health histories, identifying needs, developing plans, providing health education, and offering referrals to community resources as needed. Collaborate with team members across the organization and partner agencies as needed to improve the health of the community. Individuals assigned to this position are expected to apply a working knowledge of public health interventions and to work in situations involving individuals from diverse backgrounds, cultures, and sexual orientation.
Essential Job Duties:
- Participates in and supports emergency preparedness and response activities, including preparedness for the division, agency, and community.
- Assess and evaluate the immunization status and needs of through the knowledge of current vaccine preventable disease, immunization guidelines, vaccination schedules, state, federal, and international requirements, and client medical history.
- Work with diverse cultures including non-English speaking clients to overcome barriers to obtaining health care.
- Participate in community events such as health fairs to promote public health interventions.
- Ensure that client records are kept secure and confidential and maintained consistent with SCHD policies, procedures, and HIPAA standards. Educate clients and families on their rights as related to privacy of medical information.
- Complete required documentation in agency electronic health record or other state databases as applicable.
When assigned to Immunization program:- Educate clients and caregivers about the importance of immunization, following recommended immunization schedules, possible side effects of immunizations, and aftercare.
- Draw up vaccines according to manufacturer's instructions and administer them using safe and proper techniques and a system of double checks to ensure accuracy.
- Complete appropriate client and clinic records to ensure correct vaccines are administered and documented within the Washington State Immunization Information System.
- Participate in off-site vaccination clinics in the community including regularly scheduled and seasonal clinics.
- Transport biologicals, sharps, and other required supplies to clinic sites in a safe and secure manner and administers vaccines.
- Respond appropriately to any adverse reactions.
- Perform childhood and adult Immunizations
- Clean, sanitize, and disinfect work areas, tools, etc.
- Assist with mobile site set-up and tear-down
- Provide oversight/leadership and delegate to M.A.-Certified during vaccination clinic
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: Skills for the position may be gained through education, certification, relevant job experience or a combination, such as:
- Registered nurse with an associate degree or diploma from an accredited school of nursing.
- Minimum of one (1) year or recent nursing experience.
- Fluency in a foreign language, preferred
- Requires a valid Registered Nursing License for Washington State.
- Bachelor of Nursing degree from an accredited school of nursing, preferred
- Nursing experience in public health or clinical practice, preferred
- Valid Washington State Driver's license or ability to obtain one within thirty (30) days of hire and a driving record which meets the requirements of Snohomish County's insurance carrier.
