The GW MFA, Various Specialties, RN Triage (REMOTE)
The George Washington University Medical Faculty Associates, an independent non-profit academic clinical practice group affiliated with The George Washington University, is seeking RN Triage (REMOTE) candidates full-time for our various specialties.
We are looking for Nurses with the ability with establishing a strong rapport with patients and their families by phone, coordinating services, and providing education and nursing care to our patients and their families in the clinic setting.
Position Summary
Triage RNs work remotely to provide patient follow-up care such as medication refills (by protocol), medication prior authorization, clinical advice messages, and clinical information to insurance to obtain authorization/precertification for diagnostic procedures, radiology studies, and surgeries.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other duties may be assigned.
- Must be able to function independently to maintain work hours and productivity. Self-motivated individual that possesses critical thinking skills and excellent problem-solving capability.
- Needs private work area, use home computer equipment with reliable high-speed internet and access a secure network via a virtual desktop for privacy and HIPAA compliance.
- Provide distant patient education, triage and advice by monitoring patient work queues in Epic. This may include lab results, medication adjustments, medical advice, preventive care or appointment needs according to clinical best practice and physician instructions.
- Documents patient interactions within the EHR using the appropriate workflow.
- Refills electronic RX requests as received from the patient portal (My Chart) or the patient pharmacy as per protocol in the Electronic Health Record (Epic). If refill doesn’t meet the protocol, forwards request with additional documentation if needed to the ordering provider.
- Provides clinical documentation to PBM (Pharmacy Benefit Management) or Insurer to obtain approval for medications, treatments, procedures, diagnostic testing and surgeries as needed.
- Communicates with patients assisting them in determining the urgency of care needed, referring to or scheduling appointments with providers and giving health information and advice via the patient portal or phone.
- Prevent urgent/emergency visits or hospitalization whenever possible by expediting appropriate appointments as clinically necessary and communicating with providers/physicians regarding patient disposition.
- Works with other team Triage RNs as assigned to provide cross coverage for continuity of patient care during absences/leave and PTO.
- Works assigned schedule to provide coverage for incoming messages and requests from patients. Also available during assigned work hours for phone calls regarding urgent patient situations that need clinical assessment, direction and possible escalation to physician.
- Attends in person departmental meetings as needed with assigned department/specialty. At times staff and physicians may need to meet in person to discuss operations and departmental issues
- Ensures and promotes compliance with all departmental and MFA policies including but not limited to
the following: Standard regarding training, professional development, communication and management of workload, OSHA/safety and emergency policies and procedures.
- All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education
- Current DC licensure as a registered nurse is required.
Experience
- Over three (3) years of nursing experience in an outpatient setting, primary care experience preferred, or over five (5) years of nursing experience in multiple practice areas of medicine.
- Triage experience, telephone manners, typing, and computer skills; excellent verbal communication, crisis intervention, critical thinking, teaching, clinical, and assessment skills.
- Demonstrated ability to problem-solve in complex, dynamic situations. Experience in using a computerized system. Knowledge of IDX patient scheduling/registration is preferred.

Pay: $40.00 - $45.00 per hour
