Job Summary

The Registered Nurse (RN) Supervisor provides a coordinated, goal oriented health program designed to achieve the highest level of health attainable for each incarcerated individual at Minnesota Correctional Facility (MCF)-Oak Park Heights. Responsibilities include:

  • Organize and coordinate the nursing staff so that health care is delivered by competent and qualified health professionals maintaining compliance with the Minnesota Equal Employment Opportunity policy and the Department of Corrections Affirmative Action Plan.
  • Provide supervision and direction of health care services at MCF-Oak Park Heights so that health care meets acceptable standards according to Department of Correction’s policy and ACA standards.

  • Maintain a quality infection control system that conforms to state/ federal laws and standards.

This position has direct contact with incarcerated individuals.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

To be qualified for and considered for this position, applicants must meet all of the minimum qualifications listed below. Ensure that your resume contains descriptions of your work experiences sufficient for comparison against the requirements stated below and indicate the beginning and ending month and year for each job held.

  • Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Minnesota that is current, active, and without restrictions, limitations, or conditions.
  • Two years (2) of nursing experience in a hospital, long-term care and/or clinic setting within the last five years. (Note: A Bachelor's degree in Nursing or a related field may substitute for one (1) year of experience.)
  • Demonstrated leadership experience. Leadership experience can include experience as a supervisor (e.g., Charge Nurse), lead worker, team lead, or completion of a State of Minnesota leadership program (e.g., ELI or SLI).
  • Communication and human relation skills sufficient to communicate effectively with others and guide and direct staff.
  • Computer experience sufficient to complete electronic charting and use basic computer functions such as email and spreadsheet software.

Preferred Qualifications

The following qualifications are strongly desired of applicants seeking consideration for this position:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Nursing.
  • Experience as a supervisor in a healthcare setting.
  • Experience working in a correctional or secured setting.
  • Experience in specialized clinical area(s), such as in gender-specific, geriatric, juvenile health care, medical/surgery unit, and/or behavioral health.
  • Experience in developing, implementing, and ensuring compliance with policies and procedures.

Physical Requirements

The completion of pre-placement physical components may be required for this position. These components consist of a tuberculosis screening and/or respirator clearance. Additional Requirements

The selection process may include screening the top candidate(s) on their criminal history, predatory offender registration, offender associations and/or other applicable background information in accordance with Department of Corrections’ policy. Top candidate(s) must pass a criminal history check which includes successful completion of all sentencing and/or restitution requirements of law enforcement jurisdictions, including probation.

Employment history/reference checks, including incidents of sexual harassment, will also be conducted on the top candidate(s) in accordance with Department of Corrections’ policy. This may include a review of job performance and discipline records.

New employees will be fingerprinted within the first 30 days of employment.
