Job Title: Registered Nurse (RN) – Med Surg
Job Summary:
The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Medical-Surgical (Med Surg) unit is responsible for promoting and restoring patients' health by collaborating with the healthcare team, delivering high-quality patient care, and ensuring a safe environment. The Med Surg RN will assess, implement, and evaluate nursing care while ensuring that patients' physical, emotional, and psychosocial needs are met.
Responsibilities and Duties:
1. Provide direct patient care, including administering medications, monitoring vital signs, and ensuring comfort.
2. Collaborate with physicians and multidisciplinary healthcare professionals to develop individualized care plans.
3. Perform comprehensive assessments and document patient condition accurately.
4. Monitor and document patient responses to medical interventions and treatments.
5. Educate and instruct patients and their families on disease processes, medications, and self-care management.
6. Maintain accurate medical records, treatment plans, and progress notes.
7. Respond to emergencies and provide appropriate interventions.
8. Coordinate patient care activities and collaborate with other healthcare professionals.
9. Participate in quality improvement initiatives and maintain professional development.
10. Adhere to infection control protocols to ensure a safe environment for patients and healthcare professionals.
11. Utilize critical thinking skills to make informed decisions and prioritize patient care needs.
12. Provide emotional support and advocate for patients and their families.
13. Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to provide a seamless continuum of care.
14. Stay up-to-date with current medical literature and best practices related to Med Surg nursing.
15. Adhere to ethical, legal, and professional standards of nursing practice.
Qualifications and Skills:
1. Valid RN license in the state of practice.
2. Associate's degree in Nursing (or higher) from an accredited institution.
3. BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
4. Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in Med Surg nursing (preferred).
5. Strong clinical skills and ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
6. Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
7. Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
8. Knowledge of current healthcare regulations, standards, and practices.
9. Proficient in using electronic medical records (EMR) and medical software.
10. Sound judgment, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
11. Flexibility to work various shifts, including weekends and holidays.
12. Physical stamina and dexterity to perform nursing duties effectively.
13. Compassion and empathy towards patients and their families.
14. Dedication to ongoing professional development and upholding nursing ethics.
15. Ability to maintain confidentiality and exhibit professionalism.
