Registered Nurse

Anchor Health is seeking a professional Registered Nurse to provide LGBTQ-competent, high-quality, and compassionate care. The Registered Nurse will work closely with other interdisciplinary team members to provide a competent and patient-centered experience.
About Us: Anchor Health is Connecticut’s leading health center focused on embracing and promoting the health and wellbeing of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and gender diverse individuals through compassionate, comprehensive, and science-based care in a safe, welcoming, and affirming space. Established in 2016, Anchor Health now sees more than 3,000 patients across two full-service clinics and over 50% are gender diverse. Anchor Health’s services include primary and preventative care, gender-affirming care, HIV prevention and treatment, comprehensive sexual health care, behavioral health care, and more.
Organizational Snapshot: We have a team of 27 employees, including 2 physicians, 2 family nurse practitioners, 4 Registered Nurses, 4 medical assistants, 4 patient care associates, 2 case managers, 2 pharmacists, 2 pharmacy technicians, and a handful of administrative staff.
Responsibilities:
- Provide exceptional patient-centered care that is culturally and linguistically appropriate for patient populations.
- Provide care and communicate through a trauma-informed lens.
- Respect patient's identities, pronouns, and autonomy.
- Maintain a daily patient schedule for routine injections, immunizations, patient-education, and triage appointments.
- Complete phone triage and patient assessment.
- Communicate with the interdisciplinary team to assist with the management of patient care.
- Perform high quality and timely documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR), Epic.
- Communicate via phone with patients, external providers, pharmacies, laboratories, insurance companies, and other relevant parties for care coordination.
- Complete medication and imaging prior authorizations.
- Arrange for hospital admissions, laboratory services, imaging services, and specialty referrals.
- Obtain medical and surgical histories, update medication lists, allergies, and problem lists.
- Explain treatment procedures and provide expectations to patients.
- Collect and prepare laboratory specimens for external laboratory testing and on-site point of care testing.
- Assist with medication refills per provider orders.
- Participate in regular staff and clinician meetings.
- Participate in various Anchor Health community events and activities.
- Actively engage in organization-wide cultural competency training.
- Other duties relevant duties as assigned.
The Ideal Candidate: The ideal candidate for this role is passionate about LGBTQ health care. Anchor Health is a busy and dynamic workplace, and they should have excellent communication, time management, flexibility, and critical thinking skills.
Requirements:
- Current, unencumbered, Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Connecticut.
- At least 1 year of clinical nursing experience.
- At least 1 year of nursing experience in the primary care setting.
- Ability to interact professionally and problem solve with all members of the clinical care team, including patients and families, medical staff, pharmacy, case management, administration, and others.
- Ability to relate to a broad range of people and communicate clearly, using tact, discretion, and sensitivity with patients.
- References required for short-listed candidates.
- A criminal background check absent of offenses impacting ability to perform role.
- Anchor Health requires COVID-19 and influenza vaccinations for all patient-facing staff members.
- Preferred requirements:
- Spanish language fluency
- Clinical experience working with the LGBTQ community and awareness of needs specific to this population
- At least 1 year of nursing experience with the gender-affirming care or HIV prevention and treatment services.
- At least 1 year of experience with Epic (EHR).
Compensation and Benefits: This is a full-time, exempt position. The expected salary range is between $32/hr-$38/hr, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
