The Utah Pediatric Trauma Network (UPTN) Nurse Coordinator is a state contracted position between the Utah Department of Health and Intermountain healthcare/One Intermountain Pediatrics. The incumbent has responsibility to provide accurate, timely and relevant information and support related to Pediatric Trauma and quality assurance initiatives as implemented by the Utah Pediatric Trauma Network. The UPTN Coordinator leads the Utah Pediatric Trauma Network by developing, promoting and managing Pediatric Trauma performance improvement initiatives in each of the Utah trauma regions. Key responsibilities will be to lead the development, coordination, and monitoring of programs designed to meet the mission, vision, and goals of One Intermountain Pediatrics and the Pediatric Trauma Network for the State of Utah.

Scope
To establish, develop, and maintain a Pediatric Trauma quality improvement program and network. To advise internal and external stakeholders on Pediatric Trauma triage, transport, transfer and treatment of injured pediatric patients. Serve as a liaison between the Utah Department of Health and One Intermountain Pediatrics.
Job Essentials
Consultant/Liaison: Coordinates the UPTN, comprised of participating Utah hospitals (internal and external), that work in concert to provide high quality, low cost care serving as a pediatric network resource for hospitals and agencies in the State of Utah. Will be involved in the development and improvement of Pediatric Trauma care at local, state, regional and national levels.
Community resource: Develops collaborative partnerships with community, regional, and national collaborations. Acts as a regional and national spokesperson for the Utah Pediatric Trauma Network related to child traumatic injury, preventative health and safety issues. Acts as a consultant to all Utah hospitals and agencies seeking guidance on pediatric evidenced-based care, triage and transfer guidelines.
Leadership: Create and establish a statewide pediatric performance improvement network, inclusive of all regions, hospitals and emergency medical service agencies to improve outcomes for Pediatric Trauma patients. Lead effective teams to work collaboratively with both system and state-wide trauma leadership teams to meet identified network initiatives. Facilitate time-efficient utilization of pediatric resources. Provide strategic leadership and direction for future development and funding for the network. Assists in the development of quality improvement measures and metrics. Guides legislative advocacy within the state regarding Pediatric Trauma interests and initiatives.
Establishment of Care: Assess and responds to needs identified through external regulatory agencies or internal reporting mechanisms to ensure safe, effective and consistent care for the Pediatric Trauma patient throughout the State of Utah. Implement continuous improvement processes based upon national and local benchmarking to assure high quality pediatric care throughout the network. Develops and executes communication plans to ensure timely, accurate, effective communication with internal, local and regional stakeholders to identify common goals.
Budget: Oversight to Pediatric Trauma Network strategic planning, operational and grant budgetary planning. Manages current and future large grants and annual budget within approved limitations as assigned. Partners with the State of UT and One Intermountain Pediatrics to adhere to fiscal expectation and operational budgets as applicable. Documents, completes and submits budget reports as required by facility and state requirements. Provides leadership and accountability oversight to network sponsored support staff and any other additionally budgeted network positions.
Education: Participates in state-wide multi-disciplinary activities to ensure that standards and practices are integrated and approved by the system and state-wide trauma agencies. In conjunction with Trauma Nurse Managers and Trauma Medical Directors collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to develop, implement, and evaluate system-based educational tools/programs to meet identified needs. Provides orientation and education as needed to diverse departments and disciplines related to evidenced based pediatric emergency care practice, regulatory compliance, patient safety, and national standards.
Practice Standardization and Policies: Develops state-wide Pediatric Trauma guidelines that are based on current national standards, evidenced based practice, regulatory, and legal requirements. Ensures that policies related to focus area are developed, implemented, reviewed, and revised (as indicated) on a system-wide and UPTN basis. Collaborates with subject matter experts to provide focus area expertise and input for development of forms.
Patient Safety: Partners with the Intermountain ED Trauma Operational Lane Team, Primary Children's One Intermountain Pediatric Trauma Steering Committee and other state-wide facilities to support the goals of the Pediatric Trauma Network. Works with communications to facilitate appropriate state-wide messages to medical, nursing and first responders. Maintains current knowledge of national, local, and system patient safety trends. Engages staff at all levels to promote accountability, ownership, and implementation of patient safety initiatives.
Regulatory Compliance: Works closely with medical, nursing and state leaders to ensure network-wide compliance with applicable laws and regulations affecting Pediatric Trauma services and maintains a positive working relationship with the State of Utah EMS leadership.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree from an accredited university. Degree will be verified. Either the Bachelors or Masters must be in nursing.
Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of Utah.
5 years of clinical experience.

2 years program management experience.

Experience and understanding of all aspects of Pediatric Traumatic injury and care delivery.

Ability to effectively use computer tools including: word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, database, e-mail, calendaring and internet applications.
Preferred Qualifications
Masters degree from an accredited university. Either the Bachelors or Masters degree must be in Nursing. Degree will be verified
