JOB DESCRIPTION

The PACU RN cares for post-surgical patients and assesses the patient’s physical and psychosocial needs. The PACU RN collects and assesses lab and other data in conjunction with the health care team to provide appropriate care for their patient. Assessment includes respiratory, pain management, and patient education.

DUTIES

• Consults and coordinates with healthcare team members to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care plans.
• Conducts pre- and post-operative education.
• Serves as the communication liaison to family and operating team members.
• Takes and monitors patients’ vital signs.
• Provides basic, bedside care.
• Prepares and administers (orally, subcutaneously, through an IV) and records prescribed medications.
• Communicates relevant information to a physician, facility manager, and appropriate staff.
• Reports adverse reactions to medications or treatments in accordance with the policy regarding the administration of medications by a licensed Registered Nurse.
• Responds to life-saving situations based on nursing standards and protocol.
• Records all care information concisely, accurately, and completely, in a timely manner, in the appropriate format, and on the appropriate forms.
• Preps operating room for patient/procedure.
• Initiates corrective action whenever information from monitoring equipment shows adverse symptomatology.
• Monitors patients’ physical and emotional well-being throughout the continuum of patient care.
• Initiates patient education plan, as prescribed by a physician.
• Teaches patients and significant others how to manage their post-treatment home care needs, self-administration of medication, and rehabilitation.
• Assists in positioning and responding to the comfort/safety of the patient.
• Observes and enforces strict standards of asepsis.
• And other duties as required.
  

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

• National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN) certification
• A valid nursing certificate, BSN, or MSN degree from an accredited college or university.
• A valid unencumbered RN license for the State
• Current vaccinations and health clearance certification.
• Excellent knowledge of aseptic and sterile techniques.
• ACLS certification.
• Must have previous experience with starting IVs.
• Must have at least 12 months of relevant consecutive acute care experience in this specialty.
• High-level interpersonal skills and the ability to connect with patients during stressful experiences.
• Strong organizational abilities and good communication skills
• Fluent in English.

HOURS OF OPERATION

• Hours: 12 hr. shifts- Days and Nights available

DRESS CODE (*=Strictly Enforced)

• SCRUBS in any combination. Must be professional in appearance*

COMPENSATION

• Day Shift: Up to $52/hr DOE (eligible for up to an additional $8/hr)
• Night Shift: Up to $57/hr DOE (eligible for up to an additional $5/hr)
