GENERAL OVERVIEW:
The Circulating Nurse is a Registered Nurse who provides quality patient care using the nursing process, the medical plan of care, and organizational policies. The Registered Nurse is fully responsible for all actions as a licensed nurse and is accountable to patients for the quality of care delivered.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Provide communication between team members in the surgical field and persons outside the Operating Room.
- Obtains needed supplies and equipment for each specific procedure.
- Assures adequate amounts of surgical supplies are in the Operating Room.
- Verifies suction, lights and other needed equipment are functioning properly.
- Opens sterile supplies, assists scrub tech, assists anesthesia team.
- Completes operative record.
- Maintains knowledge of drugs used and can administer drugs safely.
- Is familiar with supplies, equipment, and medications on the crash cart and able to assist in the event of a cardiac arrest.
- Orders supplies and medications.
- Team player who contributes to building the team by helping others succeed through role modeling and mentoring.
- Shares knowledge and skills with peers and colleagues.
- Promotes patient safety initiatives (ex: National Patient Safety Goals).
- Utilizes the nursing process to assess, plan, evaluate and implement a patient plan of care according to the individual needs of the patient as prescribed by physician.
- Assesses patient reports/records change of condition and notifies physician and/or intervenes appropriately and documents accordingly.
- Accepts assignments in all areas and performs duties within individualized competency.
- Meets time and attendance guidelines per surgery center policy.
- Utilizes effective time management skills to complete assigned duties and responsibilities within established work shift.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum
- Completed RN training program and have a current valid PA RN licensure.
- CPR Certification
- OR experience
Preferred
- ACLS certified
