Job Summary:
The NICU Registered Nurse is responsible for providing comprehensive and specialized nursing care to neonates admitted to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. The nurse will work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to monitor, assess, and provide interventions for newborns requiring critical care due to premature birth, medical conditions, or surgical procedures. The nurse will play a vital role in ensuring the optimal health and development of these neonates during their stay in the NICU.
Responsibilities:
  1. Assessment and Monitoring: Perform thorough assessments of neonates' physical, developmental, and psychological status. Monitor vital signs, observe changes in clinical condition, and report any abnormalities promptly.
  2. Care Planning: Collaborate with the healthcare team to develop and implement individualized care plans based on neonates' specific needs. Adjust plans as necessary and ensure they are family-centered.
  3. Medical Interventions: Administer medications, treatments, and interventions as prescribed by physicians. Monitor responses to interventions and make appropriate adjustments.
  4. Ventilator and Equipment Management: Operate and manage medical equipment commonly used in the NICU, such as ventilators, monitors, and infusion pumps. Ensure equipment is functioning properly and troubleshoot issues as needed.
  5. Family Support and Education: Educate parents and family members on neonatal care, development, and any necessary interventions. Provide emotional support and involve families in the care process.
  6. Collaboration: Work closely with neonatologists, pediatricians, respiratory therapists, nutritionists, and other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive care. Participate in rounds and team meetings to discuss patient progress and plans.
  7. Documentation: Maintain accurate and detailed medical records, including assessments, interventions, and responses. Ensure proper documentation of medications, procedures, and changes in condition.
Requirements:
  • Valid and current Registered Nurse (RN) licensure
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • Certification in Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) and Neonatal Intensive Care Nursing (RNC-NIC) highly desirable.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to remain composed and focused on high-pressure situations.
  • Compassionate and patient-centered approach to care.
  • Previous experience in neonatal nursing or pediatric nursing is preferred.
