Unit Description:
In accordance with established policies, procedures, and regulations, the Registered Nurse is directly responsible for attending to patient's nursing needs in the office setting and over the phone. The Registered Nurse is responsible for the care and treatment of patients according to the standards of nursing practice and established Porter Medical Group policies and procedures. He/she will demonstrate a pleasant disposition to patients, families, and coworkers. Patient confidentiality will be maintained at all times.
Nail care RN Responsibilities - Specific responsibilities will vary from practice to practice including but not limited to:
- Examining patients' feet (escalating concerns outside of scope of practice to DPM in clinic) debridement as necessary
- Review physician or advance practice provider patient chart before meeting with patient and discussing treatment to be performed.
- Examine patient and Consult with physician if needed.
- Perform trimming of dystrophic and non-dystrophic nails.
- Room patients before procedures.
- Order Nail Care supplies
- Wound care certified
- Delegates tasks to other members of the clinical team as appropriate based on team member job description and proven competencies.
- Wound care evaluations and assisting with orthotic concerns
Collaborates with provider to determine the needs of the patient:
- Collects data accurately and sees that all information is transferred to the patient chart correctly.
- Uses effective communication skills and interpersonal skills in obtaining information from patient.
- Identify and communicate significant findings of patient assessment to the patient's provider.
- Maintains patient confidentiality.
- Renders direct patient care and instructs patients and their family members in home care as instructed by the provider.
Previous experience with Nail Care including, educating patients on proper care of their feet, conducting foot exams to assess the condition of the patient's feet-including checking for signs of infection and taking measurements Performing basic foot care procedures, such as cleaning the feet, clipping nails, and removing calluses Providing specialized treatment options for patients who have wounds that have not responded to other methods of treatment.
Education-
• Must maintain unrestricted RN license in the State of Vermont or a compact RN license
• One year of RN experience required. Two years of relevant RN experience in Chosen clinical area preferred.
• CPR Certification.
On-call: Not required.
