The RN will provide ongoing nursing services to youth across campus, and directly reports to the Charge Nurse.
Major Job Responsibilities:
- Enhances current programs by coordinating the overall quality medical care to all resident youth.
- Observes youth and reports any changes in physical, social or emotional condition involving level of functioning, changes in attitude/behavior, loss of appetite, weight change or complaints of pain.
- Develops to the highest degree possible, a normalized family-style home environment providing counseling, concern, direction, assistance and support for the youth in care.
- Maintains all property in clean, safe and attractive manner.
- Consults and communicates with Psychiatrist(s), Physician(s) and/or Family Nurse Practitioner any changes in youth requiring medical interventions.
- Coordinates youth appointments at clinic and performs routine medical interventions as allowed by License.
- Coordinates monthly youth appointments with psychiatrist.
- Coordinates and manages ordering and set up of youth medications.
- Monitors each resident's Medication Administration Records.
- Conducts in-service trainings on medication administration and documentation, side effects and emergency protocols.
- Assists with new admissions and discharges.
- Implements direct treatment services according to an individualized service plan and consistent with the agency's model of care.
- Assists with Acute Care referrals and/or emergency crisis.
- Completes required documentation in accordance with state regulatory standards.
- Addresses any safety hazards that exist in clients' dally activities, habits and/or living environment.
- Actively monitors all aspects of the physical property.
- Performs miscellaneous projects and completes various tasks as requested by management.
Requirements
Qualifications:Knowledge & Experience
- Must be twenty-one (21) years of age
- Must possess a current Registered Nurse license in the state of Mississippi and possess a minimum of two years experience working with children/adolescents or other populations with special emotional/behavioral needs.
- Must possess strong interpersonal skills.
- Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google Suite Software.
- Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Must be able to multi-task in a fast pace work environment.
- Must possess ability to effectively respond to crisis situations.
- Must possess ability to maintain and manage confidential information.
Skills/Working Conditions:
- Must maintain valid Driver's License and an acceptable driving record
- Must be insurable by Methodist Children's Homes insurance carrier
- Must be able to work flexible schedule and shifts including overnights, weekends, holidays and extended periods of time.
- First Aid, CPR, Universal Precautions, and medication administration.
Physical Requirements
- Must provide a negative drug screen result prior to employment.
- Must pass a pre-employment physical and TB test and on-going physical assessments as required
- Duties are performed in a variety of environments ranging from highly stressful to casual and leisurely.
- Be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Push/pull people and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Sit at a desk for extended periods of time and perform hours of work sitting at a computer.
- Twist, turn, bend, stoop and reach frequently in the performance of client assistance responsibilities.
- Duties may include some traveling.
- Have the ability to participate in recreational activities with clients, including, but not limited arts, athletics, and outdoor activities.
- Regular attendance at primary worksite and agency related events.
