Registered Nurse

Position: School Nurse (Registered)Primary function: To provide health services to students and employees in assigned schools.Qualifications: Must be a licensed Registered Nurse who is professionally trained and experienced. Hold current licensure to practice nursing in the State of Arkansas with current certification in CPR and standard first aid.Major responsibilities: Work with district administrators, school principals, staff, parents, and various public agencies to maintain and enhance the quality of nursing care within the District.Develop and submit a yearly district nursing budget to the superintendent for consideration.Be responsible for the purchase, allocation, and inventory of all medical supplies for District health rooms.Coordinate Districts in-services for staff and provide certification for District in CPR/AED and First Aid training.Assist in the development of policies/procedures for administration of nursing care within the District to students and staff.Work with nurses, staff, and parents in the development of individual health care plans for students with chronic health care needs.Follow Arkansas state laws on immunization and the Arkansas State Health Department regulations on communicable disease control. Collect and prepare data for state mandated screenings and use the assembled information to assist students in securing attention or treatment.Function as a health education resource person who provides health education programs in specified areas to help maintain quality education in the school learning environment.Maintain and update health information on student records and enter health data as required for state reporting through E School.Assist schools in the development of procedures for caring for illness and injury at school. Respond to emergency needs of students and staff members as required.Provide orientation, training, and supervision for volunteers who serve in the school health rooms.Order first aid supplies for use by nurse and supplies needed in health rooms.Report to and perform other duties assigned by the Superintendent or his designee as well as the building principals.Provide nursing care to students with illnesses, injuries, or special healthcare needs during school hours.Be responsible for the maintenance of student medications, both prescription and over the counter, in the school.
This includes the storage, administration, and documentation of all medications.
