DOC is seeking a highly motivated and qualified Registered Nurse (RN) full time positions at the Washington Correction Center for Women in Gig Harbor WA. This posting may be used to fill other vacancies that occur during this posting period.


Registered Nurses will receive shift differential in the amount of two dollars and fifty cents ($2.50) per hour for evening shift and night shift work. Employees may also qualify for one or both of these supplemental shift premiums in addition to the above.
A. One dollar ($1.00) per hour during any hours assigned to work from 11:00 p.m. until 7:00 a.m.
B. Three dollars ($3.00) per hour during any hours worked from Friday midnight to Sunday midnight.

Washington Correction Center for Women is our Women's prison in the State of Washington. This facility cares for all disease that women could have from IV drug users to those with HEP C and mental health issues. Additionally, they also take care of pregnant women, the women will not often look for care in the community, so they show up with some times complex and interesting needs.
  • Inpatient unit is a 14-bed unit.
  • Outpatient Clinic can see up top 120 patients a day.
  • Chronic disease clinics are run for different disease (diabetics, hypertension etc.)

Some of what our RN's do:
  • The Registered Nurse delivers services which promote health, foster healing, and support coping and adjustment to various health conditions.
  • Screening, assessing, and evaluating Incarcerated individuals and the conditions.
  • Responding to all other requests for health care attention in a complete, timely, clinically appropriate and therapeutic manner.
  • Delegating and supervising work, monitoring, managing, coordinating, and delivering health care.
  • Planning transition, making referrals and arranging follow-up when patients transfer or return to the community.
  • Assisting patients to improve their skill and ability to provide care for themselves and their family.
  • Counseling, consulting, teaching, advising, and providing health information that improves quality of health services and/or enhances safety and security.

On-call/intermittent staff are expected to:
  • Be available to work all shifts (day, swing and graveyard) including weekends and holidays as requested.
  • Be willing to work a minimum of 10 shifts a month.
  • Provide written availability by the 20th of each month for the following month's coverage.
Be willing to complete a paid six-week correctional worker core training (not required).

Required Qualifications:
  • Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing.
  • One year experience working as a Registered Nurse.
  • Initial and continuous unencumbered licensure in the State of Washington as a Registered Nurse.
  • Training by the American Heart Association in Healthcare Provider CPR. Proficient using computer based programs to schedule, monitor and track patient information, perform data entry and word processing, and communicate via email, as well as other programs that may be needed to complete assigned work.
  • Ability to work independently and with limited supervision.
In addition to the above, this position requires:
  • Analysis - Uses data and information in a clear and rationale thought process to assess and understand issues, evaluate options, form accurate conclusions and make decisions. Identifies key facts, understands the nature and relationship between data elements, recognizes underlying principles or patterns in an array of data, and determines if additional data should be collected.
  • Uses judgment and critical thinking in the absence of clear guidelines to draw conclusions about further action.
  • Observation and Inspection - Critically observes and inspects people, conditions, and the environment to detect problems. Acutely aware of critical details, alert and attentive when performing other work, understands normal conditions and constantly compares the current status to the norm to identify subtle changes and incremental deviation, makes informed judgment about when a change in current status must occur and determines appropriate action. Uses insight to identify contributing and mediating factors. Understands thorough documentation and other forms of communication to cause others to understand and take appropriate action.
  • Decisiveness - Makes timely decisions without sacrificing quality even under ambiguous circumstances or when data is limited. Recognizes when a decision must be made and moves forward, delegates decision making authority appropriately, advocates for important patient care objectives and finds common ground, and solutions among diverse interests.
Preferred/Desired Qualifications:
Experience working as a Registered Nurse in an acute care setting or a correctional facility.
Certification as a Correctional Healthcare Professional

  • Tuberculosis (TB) is a priority health issue for DOC employees. The successful candidate may be required to provide valid proof of a baseline TB skin test within 60 days from the date of hire.   • Must be able to work in spaces, climb stairs, walk long distances, and frequently lift up to 30 pounds. Under rare circumstances this position may be required to lift or carry up to 50 pounds and push up to 100 pounds
