GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB
This position will provide evidence-based or evidence-informed, culturally sensitive Nutrition education to Older Americans. This role will also provide menu design and analysis for our Nutrition Department at Silver Key which also includes a Kosher menu. The Registered Dietitian or Nutritionist shall provide services in a manner which complies with to the Older Americans Act of 1965 (Pub. L. 89-73, 79 Stat. 218), the Colorado Staff Manual Volume 10, and the State Unit on Aging (SUA) Policy and Procedures Manual.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
•Review and approve monthly meal menus to determine if they meet State and Federal nutritional guidelines.
•Provide nutrition counseling and electronically document recommendations for clients considered at "nutritional risk"
•Provide nutrition counseling to Café clients (minimum four in-person presentations to Café's in El Paso County each fiscal year).
•Must be able to read and interpret Federal and State guidelines and approve menus within all SUA parameters.
•Able to work independently.
•Provide timely invoicing and menu recommendations each month.
•Experience in Food Processor, Empowor and Outlook software.
•Other duties as required.

DRIVING DUTIES
Some driving required when presenting at Connections Café's in El Paso county.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS
Silver Key Senior Services is a drug-free organization. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a drug screen and background checks. Business-specific knowledge: Knowledge of Silver Key Senior Services mission statement, policies/procedures, business-specific software and safety regulations. This position does require a background check by Colorado Adult Protective Services (CAPS).
REQUIRED EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
•Bachelor's Degree in Foods and Nutrition or Home Economics with minimum 6 months in nutrition education, menu design and menu analysis.
OR
•Associate Degree and successful completion of the Registration Exam for Dietetic Technician. Must complete 50 hours with an accredited Dietetic Technician Program through the Dietetics of the American Dietetic Association within a specific 5-year period.
•Registered in the state of Colorado.
DESIRABLE, PREFERRED, OR SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS
•Strong computer skills are a must for this position
•Preferred experience with senior citizens and/or people with disabilities
•Preferred ability to read, write, and speak non-English language
•Specialization in Gerontological Nutrition or Diabetes Education
TECHNOLOGY PROFICIENCY
This position requires strong proficiency in the use of computer software and applications- specifically state-approved "Food Processor" software, office equipment, and professional telephone use. Proficient and responsive with referrals and email communications. The ability to adequately type quickly with few to no errors is also very important. This position will often require multi-tasking in the use of computer, phone, and office equipment while interacting with clients. Candidates for this position may be required to take and pass technology proficiency assessments prior to employment.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Demonstrated strong verbal and written communication skills, analytical skills, and interpersonal skills. Able to speak loudly and clearly to clients as needed. Must document in electronic client records and be able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules and procedure manuals. Proficiency in non-English languages is highly valued.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent for menu planning purposes.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
•Must possess and maintain a Colorado Driver's License.
•Must maintain a current Colorado Registered Dietitian registration (CDR).
•Must carry professional liability insurance.
•Must carry automobile liability insurance.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This position requires standing, walking and sitting for periods of time. Utilization of hands and fingers to operate office computer keyboard and equipment required. Must be able to reach with hands and arms, talk, hear and stoop, kneel or crouch if needed. Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds as needed.
VISION REQUIREMENTS
Position requires close, distance and peripheral vision.

Much of this position can be done online from your home. If within the office, moderate noise within business office atmosphere with computers, printers and light traffic.
