- Develop and manage LLS’s engagement with state legislators, regulatory bodies, governors’ administrations, and other states policymakers, to advance LLS’s policy agenda in the region.
- Work closely with grassroots advocacy partner to design and run policy campaigns in the region, taking the lead on all Government Affairs aspects of those campaigns.
- Monitor policy trends and other movements in the region that are relevant to LLS’s mission, recommending actions as appropriate.
- Lead and/or participate in coalitions whose goals are in alignment with the region’s priorities.
- Develop key alliances with Government Affairs counterparts at patient organizations, healthcare provider associations, and other allied organizations, for purposes of advancing region priorities.
- Represent LLS in interactions with Government Affairs representatives for relevant industries in the region, including the pharmaceutical and insurance industries.
- Work closely with grassroots advocacy partner to help drive volunteer and staff engagement in the region. To include serving as a source of expertise on the region’s policy priorities
- Maintain a strong understanding of core LLS offerings, revenue-generating campaigns, and research accomplishments to help promote the organization.
- Co-manage with grassroots advocacy partner the region’s campaign budget.

Education & Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree, preferably in a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience working in state level lobbying or Government Affairs, ideally in healthcare. An advanced degree in a relevant field may partially satisfy this requirement.
- Working knowledge of state and federal legislative processes and of the inter-connections between state and federal governments.
Position Requirements:
- Foundational understanding of the issues currently dominating debates in healthcare policy, particularly those concerning health insurance coverage and access to care
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work independently in a home office, thrive under pressure, and simultaneously advance multiple high-level tasks.
- Ability to travel within a multi-state territory and work flexible hours.
Physical Demands & Work Environment:
- Approximately 35% travel, with significant time spent in key state capitols and at least semi-annual visits to the OPP office in Washington, DC (Covid-related travel restrictions permitting)
