Job Description

I. Job Summary
Responsible for oversight and guidance of all At Your Door service facilities within the market areas. These facilities are spread over several states. Responsible for the review and oversight of operational related aspects of the warehouses; "reuse" programs; collections operations; oversight and indirect management of personnel; third party sourcing; and assists with business development. The primary objectives are to ensure At Your Door Special Collection protocols and integrity of the service are maintained as intended. Responsible for setup of new facilities, assist in the training of new employees and assigned managers, work with site and market area employees on managing At Your Door operations and scheduling, assist the Operations Service Center on customer service and program implementation, implementation of identified projects and ensure customer satisfaction while ensuring all collection programs and respective facilities are operating safely, efficiently and have systems in place for compliance with all local, State and Federal regulatory requirements.
II. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Accountable for the development and maintenance of a safety conscious organization within all assigned locations. Oversees Field Operations Manager's and Service Tech's development of a safe work environment that complies with all customer/site regulatory requirements related to health, safety, and the environment.
  • Responsible for assisting in successful management of customer service issues and in identifying potential service enhancements through regular interaction with customers, operating team, service center and vendors. Reviews the operating performance of assigned locations to ensure profitability and operational goals are achieved. Assist in the identification and management of profit/loss, pricing, invoicing, budgeting, and related activities. Analyzes current and projected financial position of assigned operating units and communicates issues to the At Your Door Management Team.
  • Provides oversight for the procedural development, implementation and employee adherence to environmental health and safety and compliance.
  • Provides for the education and development of operating teams. Ensures personnel training has been completed and properly documented. Conducts periodic training of employees and subcontractor's related to all aspects of proper identification, waste packaging, transportation, disposal, and all related documentation to ensure complete compliance with applicable regulations, processes, and procedures.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of facility waste management plans. Identifies and communicates waste minimization and recycling opportunities and management of storage areas.
  • Assists and ensures the proper application of regulations to provide guidance on waste characterization and analysis to properly complete container labels and all waste shipment documentation.
  • Conducts compliance reviews for At Your Door protocols, regulatory compliance, and safety inspections of all assigned facilities on a routine basis and reports the findings back to the local WM District and At Your Door Team
  • May assist Market Areas in interviewing, hiring, and training of new employees as part of process for setting up new facilities and replacement of existing positions.
  • Conducts routine weight measures of collected materials at At Your Door Facilities for upload to AYDNet or other system.
  • May occasionally be required to perform labor-intensive activities (e.g., collection vehicle operation, waste collection and bulking).
  • Reviews financial records for each of the facilities in assigned region as soon after monthly accounting close to identify coding errors, unusual expenses or missed revenue. Identify cost effective vendor options for facilities and make recommendations for cost savings.
  • Manage the operational relationship with third-party staff for collections, operational issues, billing and invoicing, schedule changes, etc. and ensure that information is being submitted in a timely manner.

III. Supervisory Responsibilities
The highest level of supervisory skills required in this job is the management of managerial employees. This includes:
  • Indirect supervision of approximately 2 to 12 full-time management level employees, and
  • Indirect supervision of approximately 6 to 25 full-time operations (non-management) level employees.
IV. Qualifications
The requirements listed below are representative of the qualifications necessary to perform the job.
Required: Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Sciences, Chemistry, or Business, or in lieu of degree, High School Diploma or GED (accredited) AND 4 (four) or more years' experience with responsibility in environmental/waste related project/business. Three (3) years in a role with supervisory and P&L responsibility (in addition to education requirement).
Preferred: Certified Hazardous Materials Manager designation.
B. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations or Other Requirements
Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) is preferred.
Current 40 hr Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) certificate (preferred) (If cert not available employer may coordinate such training during first few weeks of employment.)
A working knowledge of DOT regulations with regard to shipment of hazardous materials.
C. Other Knowledge, Skills or Abilities Required
An entrepreneurial skill set is highly valued with the ability to creatively achieve stretch goals and provide new services and value to existing and new customers.
A working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point) and the ability to type/keyboard.
A working knowledge of DOT regulations with regard to shipment and transportation of hazardous materials.
V. Work Environment

  • Required to use motor coordination with finger dexterity (such as keyboarding, machine operation, etc.) most of the work day;
  • Required to exert physical effort in handling objects less than 50 pounds part of the work day;
  • Required to be exposed to physical occupational risks (such as cuts, burns, exposure to toxic chemicals, etc) part of the work day;
  • Required to be exposed to physical environment which involves dirt, odors, noise, weather extremes or similar elements part of the work day;
  • Normal setting for this job is in Warehouse, office or on collection routes.

Travel is required on a frequent and regular basis. Must be able to work varied and extended hours and be accessible to support business needs.
