Job Summary -

  • The AVP of Environmental Performance is Responsible for developing and leading the execution of a comprehensive environmental, sustainability strategy and program for HealthTrust. Includes but is not limited to general environmental, sustainable product sourcing and procurement, waste elimination, toxicity reduction, and energy and water improvement initiates.
  • Individual must be adept at leading and executing in a matrixed reporting environment which intersects with numerous complex parts of the HealthTrust and HCA organization.

HCA Responsibilities/Overview

  • Understand and stay in-tune with the complexity and intricacies of HCA's business, and operating model as well as culture
  • Develop, in collaboration with key HCA stakeholders, the HCA environmental priorities / initiatives
  • Lead and drive execution of the HCA environmental priorities / initiatives
  • Coordinate, interface and drive action with the Facility Management team on HCA's balanced demand initiatives
  • Lead the data and reporting efforts, including accurate and timely preparation:
  • Carbon Emissions reporting / conservation data (e.g. emissions, water, and waste management)
  • Other environmental initiatives
  • Environmentally preferred purchasing
  • Represent HCA from an Environmental Performance perspective with government, industry and other key groups/forums
  • Create ongoing awareness and education of HCA's commitment to environmental sustainability
  • Strengthen HealthTrust's role as an environmental leader through subject matter expertise, passion and thought-leadership. Inspire passion and garner support on environmental opportunities across the organization and external stakeholders.
  • Collaborate effectivity with HCA/HT Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI), Energy Group, FacilitiGroup, Ethics and Compliance, and Marketing

HealthTrust Responsibilities/Overview

  • Understand and stay in-tune with the complexity and intricacies of HealthTrust's business/operating model and culture
  • Develop, lead and drive execution of HealthTrust environmental priorities / initiatives and overall suite of environmental services/solutions
  • Lead the data and reporting efforts, including accurate and timely preparation:
  • Carbon Emissions reporting / conservation data (e.g. emissions, water, and waste management)
  • Other environmental initiatives
  • Supplier product level environmental attributes
  • Supplier's reporting of ESG information
  • Engage GPO sourcing teams on sustainability considerations for HealthTrust sourcing events
  • Represent Healthtrust from an Environmental Performance perspective with government, industry or other key groups/forums and suppliers
  • Lead the HealthTrust Environmental Sustainability Council (ESC) and engage HealthTrust members to support their environmental goals
  • Oversee the HealthTrust Environmental Annual Impact Report
  • Engage members to support their ESG goals, including where needed acting as a consultant to assist in their program development or accomplishment of objectives.
  • Create ongoing awareness and education of HealthTrust's commitment to environmental sustainability.
  • Stay current on emerging trends, issues, best practices, and regulations.
  • Active Advisory Board participation and collaboration, for example, working with Food & Nutrition board lead on ESG relevant content like sustainable food/food packaging; antibiotic and GMO Free options, etc.
  • Research sustainable product inquiries from members and ensure membership knows about sustainable alternatives.
  • Strengthen HealthTrust's role as an environmental leader through subject matter expertise, passion and thought-leadership. Inspire passion and garner support on environmental opportunities across the organization and external stakeholders.
  • Collaborate effectivity with HCA/HT Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI), Energy Group, FacilitiGroup, Ethics and Compliance, and Marketing

Communications

  • Lead Environmental education and active communication with internal and external stakeholders
  • Develop continuing education/content for HealthTrust and our membership (HTU, Source magazine, Member portal, HT Advisor and other channels)
  • Showcase member case studies/best practices/success
  • Public speaking opportunities to drive importance and action on important environmental goals and objectives
  • Collaborate with Marketing on marketing strategy and marketing opportunities

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Domain expertise on the environment, including core climate-related topics with relevance for the business (e.g. energy, water, waste, sourcing/procurement, climate risk)
  • Familiarity with environmental reporting standards including TCFD, GRI, SBT, GHG Protocols and/or CDP
  • Executive presence and demonstrated ability to enable collaborative relationships and strong engagement with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Expert ability to execute with significant operational experience to ensure fall value capture
  • Influencer with ability to build strong partnerships among extensive list of stakeholders
  • Strategic thinker with ability to structure problem solving effectively and look ahead beyond the immediate horizon
  • Ability to strategically network and represent HT/HCA externally
  • Strong public speaking experience
  • Passionate about environmental sustainability and ability to instill passion in others
  • Ability to deliver information and develop communications in a clear, succinct and compelling manner across all levels of the organization, including C-Suite
  • Experienced and demonstrated success in leading complex projects with overlapping deadlines
  • Ability to plan, implement, execute and measure program effectiveness
  • Sense of vision, creative imagination, and motivation
  • Familiarity with group purchasing industry preferred
  • Professionalism including adaptability, confidence, motivation, accountability, integrity and humility
  • High energy and capable of working in an environment where priorities may change routinely

Education

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • MBA preferred

Experience

  • 10+ years of experience in environmental sustainability program development, execution and management
