Job description

This position supports the California Department of Public Health's (CDPH) mission and strategic plan by performing various duties, including data entry, print and prepare documents for mailing, open and sort mail/faxes received, and file/purge documents as needed. The Student Assistant (SA) uses various software applications such as Microsoft Office products, such as Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point, etc. to perform assigned tasks. The SA abides by office policies, rules, regulations, and procedures; makes arithmetic computations; takes notes during meetings; and follows routine oral and written direction.
The incumbent works under the close supervision of the Health Facilities Evaluator Manager I.
This non-tenured intermittent position will be limited to working up to 1,500 hours in a 12-consecutive month period.

Health care facilities in California are licensed, regulated, inspected, and/or certified by a number of public and private agencies at the state and federal levels, including the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) Center for Health Care Quality (CHCQ) and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). CHCQ is responsible for ensuring health care facilities comply with state laws and regulations. In addition, CHCQ cooperates with CMS to ensure that facilities accepting Medicare and Medi-Cal (in California, Medicaid is referred to as Medi-Cal) payments meet federal requirements. CHCQ also oversees the certification of nurse assistants, home health aides, hemodialysis technicians, and the licensing of nursing home administrators.
