Responsibilities
The Regional Director of Academics (RDA) is a member of Endeavor School's Academic team, reporting directly to the Director of Montessori Education and working closely in partnership with the Regional Director of Operations (RD). The RDA is deeply committed to Endeavor School's principles, core values, and our Three Pillars of Academics. The RDA serves as an inspiring guide and compassionate mentor for the Educators in their region.
The RDA facilitates the implementation and school/classroom alignment of authentic Montessori practice in safe, healthy, and nurturing environments which support each child's social, emotional, and intellectual growth and development. An authentic Montessori school will implement a philosophical approach consistent with the educational methods and areas of instruction as defined by the observations, research, writings, and instruction of Dr. Maria Montessori. Some Endeavor Montessori schools vary in their implementation of Montessori practices. For those schools, the RDA West will support schools in ensuring they provide safe, healthy, nurturing environments where children and staff are joyful, adhere to the Three Pillars, celebrate their successes, and support them along the path of practicing Montessori essentials.
Montessori Curriculum - Assisting and supporting educators to:
  • Be deeply grounded, self-reflect, and act from the Montessori method and pedagogy in all aspects of their work.
  • Create inviting, well-designed, and beautiful Montessori classrooms with a full range and use of the Montessori curriculum and materials.
  • Develop an individualized based curriculum that draws directly upon Montessori philosophy and is based on each student's developmental levels.
  • Develop effective internal systems for classroom planning, tracking, and reporting.

Support and mentor educators by:
  • Nurturing and mentoring new educators, supporting their success and development.
  • Serving as a resource and support to faculty who need advice and guidance, offering feedback and support in partnership with the School Leader and the Regional Director of Operations when necessary.
  • Observing frequently in the classrooms, offering feedback and support towards best Montessori practices.
  • Creating support plans, in collaboration with School Leaders, for faculty who struggle in their classroom settings.
  • Spot reviewing of lesson planning and record keeping.
  • Supporting Lead Teachers in building the leadership skills necessary to nurture and support assistants' development and growth.
  • Assisting with parent meetings and student observation, as needed.
  • Ensuring all practices are in line with licensing and quality compliance.
  • Working with schools to identify areas of strength and areas of opportunity within each of our Three Academic Pillars: Relational Pedagogy, Developmentally Appropriate Practices, and Inspiring Learning Environments.
  • Keeping up to date with current research and developmentally appropriate practices.
  • Working with educators to foster and maintain excellent knowledge and practice of Montessori presentations, providing refresher workshops and guided practice sessions.
  • Coordinating with Academic Team, School Leaders, and RD in generating and overseeing professional development opportunities for Endeavor educators in the region.
  • Helping to identify, from among our educators, good candidates for Montessori training.
  • Collaborate with the School Leaders to provide and lead (as appropriate) Parent Education Programs (i.e., Silent Journey through the Curriculum and Grandparent/Caregiver educational forums.)
  • Offer relevant and thoughtful workshops to the greater Montessori community and foster strong relationships with local Montessori training programs.

Demonstrates Leadership by:
  • Training and mentoring all Lead Teachers, Assistants, Enrichment providers, Substitute Teachers, and other staff who will have contact with children.
  • Supporting Endeavor Start Strong Mentors with the onboarding, training and mentoring of newly hired Assistant Teachers through their first year.
  • Working with the Welcome Team to support new integrations in the region, as needed.
  • Maintaining regular contact with educators, School Leaders, RDs, and Dir. of Montessori Education.
  • Meeting regularly with the Director of Montessori Education, RDs, and ES Academic Team.
  • Working with schools to provide other support as needed.

Actively works to further one's own pedagogical knowledge by:
  • Engaging in annual Montessori training (training should be identified in collaboration with Endeavor's Academic Team).
  • Reading at least two pedagogical books (Endeavor's Academic Team has a book list) annually.

Experience and Education
  • COMPETENCIES
    • Impeccable written communication - mastery of grammar and spelling is essential
    • Exceptional speaking and interpersonal skills
    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
    • Willingness to work hard and as part of a team for a common goal

    • The successful candidate will be warm, energetic, and articulate.

    • Computer skills essential

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
    • Bachelor's Degree
    • Montessori Primary (preferred) or Elementary Teaching Credential from MACTE-certified organization
    • A minimum of five years of lead teaching in a Montessori classroom

    • Montessori Leadership experience strongly preferred.
