Job description

Primary Purpose:
The Director ofAcademic Programs and Instructional Fidelity will be responsible for the development and support of elementary campus leadership including direct supervision of assigned elementary principals and after school program coordinators. The Director will also lead the implementation and execution of the district's academic and Instructional priorities. Additionally, the Director will provide leadership, technical assistance, and support for Del Valle ISD schools and Child Development Centers, including after school LEAD/21st Century grant programming. The Director will collaborate with the Bilingual and ESL Director to monitor implementation of the Dual Language Program and associated interventions and will collaborate with the Director of Literacy to monitor the district's literacy initiatives, programs, associated interventions, and data. In addition, the Director will support implementation of the district math program and associated interventions with fidelity across all elementary campuses. This is a grant funded position.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Master's degree from an accredited university with a major in assigned subject or closely related field
Texas Principal or Mid-Management Certification
Valid Texas Teacher certification in a closely related field
Certified Texas Teacher Evaluation and Support System (T-TESS) appraiser (or obtain within 90 days)
Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non-refundable fee (approximately $50.00) paid by the employee.
Required Experience:
A minimum of three (3) years' experience as a PK-12 teacher
A minimum of three (3) years' administrative and leadership experience
Knowledge/Skills:
Ability to develop, deliver and evaluate training for adult learning
Ability to evaluate instructional Programs and leadership effectiveness
Knowledge of curriculum design and implementation
Knowledge of effective leadership skills and competencies
Strong management, communication, and interpersonal skills

Instructional Management
The director promotes the improvement of instruction through activities such as the following:
  • Collaboratively lead work groups of diverse stakeholders including administrators and teachers in instructional improvement and program continuity
  • Secure materials and other resources for all campus leaders
  • Work cooperatively with directors and campus principals in developing and supervising the instructional programs' execution across the campus
  • Develop a system to monitor the execution of Dual Language, Literacy, Math, and Intervention programs.
  • Coach campus principals toward effective execution of all district instructional programs.
  • Coach campus principals in making data informed decisions using the district instructional programs to best meet the needs of all learners.
  • Coach the campus principals in creating a master schedule that maximizes instructional time and meets the instructional needs of all learners.
  • Support teachers, administrators, and staff in understanding the relationship between assessment and instruction

Organization Improvement
The director promotes leadership in efforts to improve the school or organization through activities such as the following:
  • Ensure elementary campus leaders remain in compliance with all district and state policies
  • Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies

Communication and Community Relations
The director promotes a positive tone for school or community relations through activities such as the following:
  • Prepare reports and presentations on student performance data, program expectations, etc. for diverse stakeholders
  • Assemble feedback committees to guide continuous improvement of all curricular areas
  • Develop systems for communicating program goals and objectives
  • Coordinate with RTI, Special Education, and English Language Learner personnel to support research-based practices in all subject areas across all classrooms
  • Participate in national and state level organizations to stay abreast of latest research and best practice
  • Read, synthesize, and disseminate research and information related to best practices from books, journals, list-serves, website, and other media formats

Organization Management
The director manages administrative, fiscal, and facilities functions responsibly through activities such as the following:
  • Train administrators and staff in relevant topics including data analysis, curriculum support, effective leadership, responsive teaching, and collaboration
  • Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents

Professional Growth and Development
The director provides leadership in professional growth and development through activities such as the following:
  • Develop and deliver research-based professional development aligned with district goals and initiatives
  • Design systems for ongoing coaching and support for elementary campus leaders
  • Develop and deliver professional development to optimize administrative support for PK-5 curricular areas and fluency across the curriculum initiatives
  • Pursue professional development activities and participate and/or present at professional conferences in the areas of PK-5 education as approved by supervisor
  • Stay current in areas of instructional innovations, educational research and disseminate information to PK-5 staff members
  • Assist in the planning of staff development for campus leadership
  • Observe classroom instruction and provide feedback and assistance campus leaders to facilitate improvement and innovation
  • Demonstrate effective instructional practices with students in the classroom
  • Meet with teachers and administrators regularly to examine data, discuss instruction, and provide feedback related to in-class observations

Qualities of an Effective Director
The director exhibits the following qualities:

  • Complies with the standards of conduct set out in Board Policy DH (Legal) and (Local) and with any other policies, regulations, and guidelines that impose duties, requirements, or standards.

  • Keeps informed of and comply with Federal/State/District and campus policies.
  • Compiles, maintains and files all reports, records, and other required documents.
  • Maintains confidentiality.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Principal Leadership.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
Supervise campus leadership and staff as assigned.
Equipment:
Computer, computer software Programs and peripherals, printer, scanner, calculator, copier, fax, and other equipment applicable to the position
Working Conditions:

  • Work irregular and extended work hours to include holidays and weekends
  • Occasional statewide travel
  • Work with frequent interruptions and maintain emotional control under stress
  • Continual standing, walking, lifting, carrying, stooping, bending, and kneeling
  • Frequent exposure to temperature extremes (hot and cold), humidity extremes, noise, low or intense illumination vibration
  • Occasional exposure to biological hazards (communicable diseases, bacteria, insects, mold, fungi), work outside, work around moving objects or vehicles, work on uneven surfaces
