Salary Range $20 to $24 depending on experience.
Working in a nursery among the scent of flowers and vibrant foliage is a popular career choice for those who love the outdoors. A successful Nursery Team Leader will:
- Have a broad base of plant knowledge to include recommending appropriate varieties for the assigned location, climate/watering needs and pest control.
- Demonstrate excellent customer service at all times
- Effectively lead all store location associates with responsibility for total location operations in the occasional absence of salaried store management
- Knowledge of the local market, customer base, seasonality opportunities, competitors and other specifics of the local market that may influence the business
Summary Duties and Responsibilities:
A nursery must be kept clean and organized, with special attention to climate conditions. Nursery workers have an acute understanding of plant environment, such as how much or little sunlight a plant needs, and the nursery is maintained as such. The Team Leader is responsible for training and developing his/her Nursery team.
This position is a key part of the overall success of the store
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide exceptional customer service
- Answer customer questions about plant climate, watering, the differences between annuals and perennials, etc.
- Field phone calls from customers describing plant color changes, for instance, and wanting to know about diseases and medicine
- General nursery clean-up
- Watering and fertilizing all sections of nursery
- Price and stock inventory
- Register functions - operate cash registers and take care of pricing and sales
- Assist in customer carry-outs
- Read and learn about product lines carried in the Garden Center
- Follow safe work practices and report any unsafe working conditions to management
- Perform other related duties and assignments as requested
