The Recreation Therapist (RT) plans and conducts scheduled recreation therapy group sessions/ programs, and individual sessions as needed. The RT will participate in co-treatment activities with other disciplines as identified. The RT is responsible for completing assessment data, care planning and routine documentation related to leisure functioning. RTs participate as an integral part of the interdisciplinary treatment team on all matters concerning the patient.

Educational / Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree and license/certification. One (1) to three (3) years experience
State/Federal Mandated Licensure or Certification Requirements:
Bristol Hospital Mandated Educational Requirements:
General orientation at time of hire. Fire/Safety/Infection Control annually. Other programs as mandated by Hospital.
Special Requirements:
Excellent interpersonal skills. Must enjoy working with geriatric population. Must demonstrate creativity, adaptability, sensitivity and patience when interacting with staff and residents. Must take initiative. Availability to work some evenings, weekends and holidays. Consistently demonstrates high level of professionalism. Vision, hearing, smell and tactile sensation corrected or accommodated to normal.
Physical Requirements:
Must have ability to be on feet for extended periods. Extensive walking, bending, twisting, and crouching. Transporting residents in gerichairs and wheelchairs.
Work Environment:
Works directly with patients, families, entertainment groups and volunteers. Some exposure to body fluids and toxic chemicals. Various working conditions inside and outside the facility.
Cognitive Requirements:
Must be able to read, write and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to interpret patient requests Good hearing and excellent listening skills.
