ABOUT GALT
Incorporated in 1946, Galt is a growing community with approximately 25,000 residents located approximately 20 miles south of Sacramento along Highway 99. The City is led by five elected council members, the Mayor being appointed.

The City of Galt is located in the heart of the Delta Recreation Area in Northern, California. Thirty minutes away are the Sierra Foothills and the Sacramento Delta. Reno, Lake Tahoe, San Francisco and the CA coast are all within a two hour drive making Galt a recreational haven for boat lovers and outdoorsmen alike.

The City of Galt is accepting applications for Assistant Swim Coach.
March 2024 through July 2024
Work Schedules Varies
Approximately 18 - 36 hrs. per week
Under direct supervision, employees in this "at-will" classification perform a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled tasks in the areas of recreation. This position is a temporary seasonal for the aquatics recreational swim team. This position will assist the Swim Coach in overseeing the operations of a recreational swim team program including, but not limited to scheduling, training, and evaluating swim team practices and competitive meets.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:
The following duties are typical for this position:
- Efficient and effective supervision of the pool and facility during the respective workout period and swim meets.
- Work with the Swim Coach, Pool Manager and Recreation Supervisor to plan the swim team season including practice times, swim meets, and social activities.
- Work with the Swim Coach, Pool Manager and the Recreation Supervisor to communicate information to all Swim Coaches, lifeguards and patrons.
- Responsible for the care and maintenance of equipment and supplies utilized during practices or swim meets.
- Promote team spirit and pride at all times
- Maintain positive public relations with all facility guests, parents/guardians and participants.
- Oversee the actions of "Gator Aides" and swimmers.
- Responsible for keeping accurate records of swim meet results for all swimmers.
- Assists with entries for meets, with maximum participation as the primary consideration for all participants.
- Maintain discipline and control during workouts and at meets, through the enforcement of the facility rules.
- Promote and enforce safety procedures; render first aid and CPR as required.
- Coach and instruct children in techniques specific to the sport.
- Actively recruit new swimmers to perpetuate the program and encourages all swimmers to attain their maximum potential.
- Communicate City, League and Board information to the participants.
- Communicate all issues, questions, concerns from staff and customers.
- Plan activities to increase the spirit and enthusiasm of swimmers, families and coaches.
- Attend all required trainings.
- Work in a safe manner and report any unsafe activity or condition. Follow safety policy and practices and adhere to responsibilities concerning safety prevention, reporting and monitoring.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge of:
American Red Cross (ARC) Lifeguard Training Certification which includes CPR for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid or equivalent.
Principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This
includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
Ability to:
Swim with proficiency and endurance for lessons and rescues.
Communicate tactfully with swimmers, parents, board members, coaches and staff; address public and customer questions and concerns;
Respond to emergency situations in a calm and effective manner; administer first aid and CPR,
Communicate orally and in writing with the ability to gather, analyze, and report information.
Education and Experience: Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be:
- Possession of an American Red Cross (ARC) Lifeguard Training Certification which includes CPR for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid or equivalent at time of appointment.
- Must have a current and valid TB Test pursuant to Public Resources Code 5163.
