Job Description Summary:

GYMNASTICS

Under general supervision of the Recreation Program Supervisor, to coordinate the Boulder Parks and Recreation Department’s Gymnastics programs, and to perform related duties as required, with a focus on Master Plan initiatives to lead the department in a growth of youth engagement and community health and wellness.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

Works in a collaborative manner to help implement the City of Boulder gymnastics program, which includes the following: 

  • Coordinate portions of the City’s recreational programs, including, but not limited to open gyms, camps, instructional Recreation Programs, birthday parties, youth outreach, special events, and any other services as needed.  

  • Schedule adult and/or youth programs, non-standard staff and facilities for recreation services. 

  • Coordinate and oversee gymnastics program’s service delivery goals which may include research best practice methods, create program plans, evaluate existing programs to determine how best to meet community recreational needs. 

  • Manage contracted programs and services as lead representative between the city and contractor. 

  • Be an active member in community engagement and outreach projects for special events and Department efforts.   

 

Ensure all practical safety measures are observed, which includes, but is not limited to the following: 

  • Enforce safety standards. 

  • Train non-standards employees in safe teaching methods and supervise their work as necessary. 

  • Meet all licensing and required certifications as needed.   

  • Take proper care of equipment. 

  • Conduct regular inspections. 

 

Perform administrative tasks, which includes, but is not limited to the following: 

  • Make recommendations and implements specific portions of the budget.  

  • May seek alternative funding sources, if necessary, through partnership fundraising, sponsorships, and grant writing. 

  • Interview, hire, train and supervise non-standard staff. May write and produce training manuals and rulebooks for non-standard staff.  

  • Compile and monitor records and statistics for programs related to non-standard staff and programs. 

  • Organize and submit payroll, invoices, and purchasing card statements. 

  • Order supplies such as equipment for programs. 

  • Utilize Departmental Recreation Programming software for facility booking, program maintenance, and program registration. 

  • May update information on the City weather-line and website for program communication. 

  • Meet and communicate with standard staff to schedule program offerings based on space availability and changing needs.   

 

Perform public relations and marketing tasks, which includes, but is not limited to the following: 

  • Organize and submit recreation guide and website information. This includes writing program descriptions and developing marketing content as needed.   

  • May produce public education and training presentations for various audiences. 

  • Coordinates marketing efforts with programs, facilities, and Department marketing staff. 

 

Other: 

  • Perform related duties as required to meet the needs of the City.

  • May serve on division, department, or City committees and task forces. 

  • Update job knowledge to remain current with trends, techniques, equipment and regulations. 

  • Generate creative and innovative solutions to manage organizational issues and opportunities.

  • Know and comply with all City and Department policies, participate in professional trainings and development, and adhere to attendance and workplace attire policies.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation or related field; or any combination of equivalent education/experience 

  • A minimum of two years of experience in a leadership role in Recreation Programming  

  • Ability to work tactfully and effectively with the public.   

  • Ability to give verbal instructions and to inspect the work of employees supervised.  

  • Ability to ensure all practical safety measures are observed.  

  • Ability to utilize all required safety equipment.  

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.   

  • General computer experience.  

  • Acceptable background information including criminal conviction record and credit history.  

  • Valid Colorado driver’s license and acceptable motor vehicle record.  

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Former or active membership in USA Gymnastics, SafeSport, Concussion Training, and Safety and Risk Management. 

  • CPR/AED certified.  

  • Familiarity with positive youth development principles and strengths-based approaches to prevention and intervention.  

  • Knowledge and experience in community development concepts and practices.  

  • Experience working with recreation software.  

  • Well-rounded experience coordinating community recreational programs for youth and adults.  

  • Bi-lingual skills.

WORKING CONDITIONS - Required Physical and Mental Effort, and Environmental Conditions 

Physical Demands:  Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing or other communication capabilities that permits the employee to communicate effectively on the telephone and in person.  Sufficient vision or other powers of observation that permits the employee to review, evaluate and prepare a variety of written documents and materials.  Ability to perform a wide range of strenuous physical and manual tasks in an outdoor environment.  Physical ability to stand, walk, and kneel; hand/eye coordination to operate personal computer and office equipment. 

 

Work Environment: Works in both indoor and outdoor environments that are oftentimes impacted weather and at times, unpredictable conditions.  

 

Machines and equipment used in work include, but are not limited to: Uses sports/gymnastics equipment, standard office equipment including personal computers, calculators, and copy machines/printers, etc.
