General Summary:
Under the general supervision of the Recreation Supervisor, this position performs professional duties in planning, developing, coordinating, implementing, and supervising recreation and athletic programs for the Hyland Hills community. The emphasis of the program would be the development and implementation of youth, adult, active adult, community special events, and athletic programs. Also assists with the development of the District Activity Guide.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  1. Lead in planning, organizing, developing, scheduling and implementing recreation, fitness and athletic programs.
  2. Hires, trains, supervise, schedules and evaluates part-time and seasonal personnel; assigns work as necessary.
  3. Coordinates volunteer requests from the community; recruits, trains, and supervises volunteer coaches and staff.
  4. Assists with the scheduling of recreation facilities and monitors the condition of the facilities.
  5. Coordinates with various community agencies and other District departments to provide opportunities for successful Recreation Programs.
  6. Assist and attend a variety of training seminars, part-time staff meetings, coaching clinics, and community meetings.
  7. Maintains an inventory of supplies and equipment; distribute supplies and equipment; assist with ordering supplies and equipment for recreation and athletic programs.
  8. Assist with public relation duties such as preparing and distributing flyers; works closely with the Communication Director on the District Activity Guide.
  9. Develops team and recreation class rosters, schedule leagues and tournaments; enforce rules and regulations of recreation and athletic programs.
  10. Process background checks for all staff, including volunteer coaches.
  11. Assist with preparing and administrating individual program budgets as appropriate; monitor expenditures and part-time payroll in accordance with established procedures.
  12. Provide clerical support, Rec-Trac program registration, answer telephones, and maintain correspondence with other District staff members; may respond to public inquiries about the facility and programs.
  13. Assist recreation staff in planning, organizing, developing, and scheduling a variety of programs.
  14. Development of team schedules, and implementation of activities, programs, and coordinates with the Recreation Programs for facility usage.
  15. May coordinate and supervise part-time staff on week nights, weekends and holidays.
  16. May open and close the operations of the recreation facility or school.
  17. May perform emergency custodial maintenance work; set-up tables, sports equipment, chairs, and bleachers for classes and programs.
  18. May provide security for the building and grounds. In addition, makes safety checks on the facility and eliminate hazards to ensure complete safety of the patrons.
  19. May assist in securing sponsorships for special events.
  20. Perform other duties as requested.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
  1. Knowledge of childcare and educational programming.
  2. Knowledge of developing and administering recreation and sports programs; working knowledge of the rules of a variety of sports; and ability to oversee recreation and athletic programs during other staff absence.
  3. Ability to work under stressful situations; ability to stay calm and have excellent problem solving skills.
  4. Ability to maintain records, prepare reports and assist with the budget.
  5. Ability to work evenings, night shifts, weekends and holidays.
  6. Ability to participate in active sports and recreation activities; ability to organize and direct childcare, special events, athletic, and Recreation Programs.
  7. Ability to establish and maintain effective & professional working relationships with co-workers, the general public, and any outside organizations.
  8. Ability to follow written and oral instructions; ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing; ability to direct the work of others.

Working Environment/Physical Activities:
  1. Encompasses a wide range of duties with 60% of time spent in an office environment and 40% in the field.
  2. May have to manage several projects at one time and may be interrupted frequently to meet the needs of the District.
  3. May find the environment to be busy, noisy, and will need excellent organization and time and stress management skills to complete the required tasks.

Education/Experience:
Must have a bachelor's degree in recreation administration, physical education, social work, child development, early childhood education or another closely related field. Have one (1) year experience in public recreation. Our preference is that the candidate be Director Qualified (large center) through the State of Colorado, and able to show documentation that all requirements are met prior to hire. Must have a valid State of Colorado driver license; must also have or obtain First Aid and CPR Certification within 30 days of employment.
