JOB OVERVIEW - This position is assigned to the Psychiatric Nurse under the Psychiatrist and Health Services Administrator.
- Provide activities-related services to inmates on the mental health caseload with the focus of services covering inmates housed on the Mental Health Treatment Unit.
- Provide treatment services and recreation activities using a variety of techniques to enhance the physical, mental, and emotional well being of clients.
- Help reduce symptoms of depression, stress and anxiety, and help clients recover basic motor functions and reasoning abilities.
- Help clients build confidence and socialize effectively to enable greater independence and to help reduce the long-term effects of the client's mental illness.
QUALIFICATIONS - Generally acquired through a combination of education and experience.
- Bachelor's Degree in either Occupational Therapy, Recreation Therapy, or in the human services field.
- Two years of experience in an in-patient mental health setting is required.
- Experience working in a correctional setting is preferred.
- Certification as a Recreation therapist is preferred but not required.
