JOB TITLE:Recreation Aide/Counselor Part-Time Seasonal –Hourly Employee (Seasonal Assignment)

PAY RATE: $15.00
SUMMARY: The Parks and Recreation Department is responsible for the provision of leisure programs, sports and other recreational activities for individuals and groups of various ages. This role also assists in implementing the safety mandates of visitors and program attendants as per CDC guidelines related, but not limited to social distancing, facial coverings, hand hygiene and the overall organization and delivery of general recreational activities, leagues, special events, clinics and seasonal programs.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
•Prior to park visitors and program attendants entering the parks for the use of open areas only, perform a temperature checks at the park entrance.
•Monitor park’s open restrooms to ensure they are stocked with supplies for hand washing hygiene and regularly cleaned to reduce the risk of exposure to COVID-19.
•Monitor areas where people gather such as picnic tables, playgrounds and basketball courts to ensure the park visitors and program attendants are following CDC and Park guidelines for safety.
•Following safe distancing and facial cover guidelines verbally remind park visitors and program attendants about temporary park closures due to social distancing practices. Ensure park visitors and program attendants do not cross physical barriers in closed areas of the parks.
•Verbally remind large groups about park rules set in place to enforce social distancing.
•While wearing gloves, routinely and efficiently wipe any common touched outdoor surfaces with disinfectants such as handrails, benches and door knobs.
•Communicate and report all parks issues to the Interim Parks and Recreation Director on written reports.
•Enforce safety policies and procedures.
•Assists in the rendering of first aid in cases of minor injuries while wearing personal protective equipment.
•Assists in the performance of minor maintenance duties to keep facilities and grounds in a safe and clean condition for participants and spectators.
•Performs other related duties as assigned by management.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
•This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
QUALIFICATIONS:
•Minimum: High school diploma, general education degree (GED) or AA degree with 6months of related experience and/or training working with youth or at a park facility.
•Bachelor’s degree preferred in social services or related field with minimum six months related experience and/or training working with youth or at a park facility.
•Computer skills required:
- Basic computer skills.
- Other skills required:
- Previous experience in a similar environment preferred.
- Knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques of public recreational activities and programs.
- Some knowledge of major athletic rules and regulations.
- Some knowledge of basic safety and first aid procedures.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to keep records and prepare reports.
- Ability to serve the public and fellow employees with honesty and integrity in full accord with the letter and spirit of Broward County's Ethics and Conflict of Interest policies.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, co-workers, elected and appointed officials and members of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds regardless of race, religion, age, sex, disability or political affiliation.
