Reading Tutor

Position: Reading Instructor / Tutor
Hours: Part-time, mostly after school hours, starting at about 5 hours a week with room to grow into more
Compensation: $23-35/hr. depending on qualifications and experience
Location: Mission Valley

About La Jolla Learning:
La Jolla Learning is a private 1:1 educational organization that provides instruction at several offices in the San Diego area, as well as virtually. We are currently hiring instructors for ouroffice in Mission Valley.

Our services include individualized tutoring, test preparation, and educational therapy for K-12, college students, and adult learners. We carefully select and train talented, passionate, caring educators to help our students maximize their potential for academic success.

We are a clientele-based business and the amount of hours we can provide depends on your provided availability and teaching proficiencies. We provide hours based on clientele-need. Schedules take time to fill with consistent students, however we always do our best to deliver the amount of hours our instructors are looking for.

Job Description:
We are looking for fun, engaging, and experienced educators to help our students reach their fullest potential in academic achievement! Our Reading Instructors support students in strengthening their reading and spelling skills and are provided with all instructional materials and trainings to do so effectively. We work with instructors’ specific competencies to match them with students and develop learning plans, and we also provide training on our programs. Our instructors also can branch out and work with our other program offerings (such as our Executive Functioning program) if they want to expand their teaching experience.

Our ideal candidate:

• has experience teaching reading and/or other content areas to elementary, middle, or high school students.
• is familiar with phonics concepts (such as syllables types)
• is open to be trained in our programs, particularly structured programs for reading

Our current program needs at our Mission Valley office are as follows:

-General Reading Support
-Reading and Spelling (Structured Literacy)
-Dyslexia Support
-Executive Functioning

Preferred Competencies:

• Undergraduate degree in relevant field
• Minimum of 1 year of tutoring experience with preference for teaching reading/spelling or elementary/middle school content knowledge.
• Honesty and integrity to earn and maintain trusting relationships and uphold professional ethics
• Confidence and ability to inspire others with your love of learning
• Ability to build rapport with children and effectively collaborate with others
• Ability to maintain a consistent schedule

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $23.00 - $35.00 per hour

Expected hours: 5 per week
